The loan program offers favor
able Interest rates, high loan-to-
value ratios, reduced closing
costs and flexible credit guide
lines. New underwriting rules eil-
low a homeowner to devote a
higher portion of monthly In
come to the mortgage payment

mortgage lending.
"Home ownership is an essen
tial Ingredient for a thriving
neighborhood," Durden said. "All
aspects of this program are de
signed to make It easier for resi
dents to purchase a home or to
renovate their current resi
dence."
Wachovia will provide funding
for the loans. The loan program
has been reviewed by city offi
cials, who see significant oppor
tunity for cooperation with and
participation In it, Durden add
ed.
Loans will be available for the
purchase of single-family, own
er-occupied primary residences.
Including townhouses and con
dominiums.
"The areas participating In the
program will have one factor In
common — residents' desire to
Improve their neighborhoods
through increase home owner
ship and housing renovation,"
