Thursday, November 2, 1989 - THE CHARLOTTE POST - Page llA T/^e Sunday ScfiooC Lesson by Bessie Wllbon ‘ INTRODUCTION; tin our studies, we have had to leave some puzzles unsolved, but cfcer and over we have been assured that God rules. For example, we 4o not know who "the man of sin" Is, but we know he will be defeated. \^e do not know when Jesus wUl come, but we know He will triumph, and awe shall share His triumph If we are faithful. r^For more visions of God's rule we come now to Revelation, the last Ijook of the Bible. We shall find more puzzles we cannot solve, but we ^hall also find more assurances of God's rule and the victory of His people. ‘The book of Revelation Is placed last In our Bible, and probably It \('as the last book to be written. tProbably John was the only apostle of Jesus still living on earth. Mter Jerusalem was destroyed, he lived in Ephesus and guided the Christians there and In the other cities of the area. The heathen rul- ^ opposed Christianity, and so their displeasures fell especially on tjohn. They made him a prisoner on a tiny Island called Patmos, but God set him free In spirit to see magnificent visions of events involv- ihg the whole earth, and Heaven too. J We are not told how long John stood awe struck before , before that glorious vision and listened to the resounding praise, but he under stood that the song of praise was unceasing. Then his attention was Reused on one particular object book. ; THBlESgOH; ' "I saw a scroll In the right hand of the one who sits on the throne: It was covered with writing on both sides and was sealed with seven $eals. And I saw a mighty angel, who announced in a loud voice, '|Who Is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll? " But there V^as no one In heaven or on earth or In the world below who could (^en the scroll and look Inside It. I cried bitterly because on one ?ould be found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside it. "pien one of the elders said to me, "Don't ciy. Look! The Lion from Ju dah's tribe, the great descendant of David, has won the vlctoiy, and he can break the seven seals and open the scroll. Then I saw a Lamb Standing in the center of the throne, surrounded by the four living J reatures and the elders. The Lamb appeared to have been killed. It ad seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God that have been sent through the whole earth. The Lamb went and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who sits on the throne. M he did so, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell l^fore the Lamb. Elach had a harp and gold bowls filled with Incense, which are the prayers of Gods' people. They sang a new song: 'You ^re worthy to take the scroll and to break open Its seals. For you were killed, and by your sacrificial death you brought for God people from every tribe, language, nation and race. You have made them a Iclngdom of priests to serve our God, and they shall rule on earth." Again I looked and 1 heard angels, thousands and millions of them! "Piey stood around the throne, the four living creatures, and the eld ers, and sang In a loud voice? "The Lamb who was killed is worthy to receive power, wealth, wisdom, and strength, honor, glory, and Jiralse!" (Revelation 5: 1-12). ' John lived In Ephesus before he went to Patmos. The special god dess of Ephesus was Diana, but the many other deities ranged from file Imaginary Jupiter to the real but ungodly emperor. Only Jews and Christians knew there was only one real God, Jehoveih. Praise God for making living creatures: the cow that builds your bones with the calcium of her milk: What else? ' Praise God for people: the preacher who enllghtems you with the Word of God, the baby who gladdens you with a smile, t\^om else? 1 Some people have honored God with their lips while their heart Was far from Him. Some people have called Jesus Lord without doing what He says to do. For a few minutes, forget your words of praise and ihlnk of some things you have done In the past week that gave praise to God. Will you dare to think also of something you have done that mutes or mars or nullifies you praise? More Important, think of one thing you -will do this week that will give praise to God. I O God, we praise Your goodness and grace. Have mercy on us - all pinners. In Jesus' name. Amen. Getting To Know Christ By J. L. Little The greatest thing in all this world is to know Christ as your Lord and your Saviour. If you go through this life and fall to come to know Christ, then it can be said of you as It was said of Ju das Iscariot: "It had been better for that man If he had never been bom." Will that be said of you? Life on this earth is short er than a vapor. You will live In eternity as long as God lives, and He Is from eternity to eter nity, having no beginning and on ending. Think seriously, friend, you have a never-dying soul that Is going to spend eternity in Heaven or Hell. Your atheism will not do away with Hell. You are just a heartbeat away from the flames of Hell. Every day some three hundred thousand souls are driven out Into eterni ty. At this very moment souls are going out Into eternity with out Christ. One day soon you shall be In that number. You'll look back in regret and see your mistake in hating the Gospel. But what good will It do you then? No good at all. As death finds you, so shall eternity hold you. The vast majority of you who read these lines will spend eternity In Hell. What will you do? You can repent and be saved or you will rebel and go to Hell for your trouble. Our subject at this time is "MARKS OF A FALSE lEACH- ER." Every teacher of the Word Is either true or false, I once was a false teacher and would have remained In that death condi tion If left to myself. The first outstanding characteristic of a false teacher I call your atten tion to Is that he (the false teacher) does not understand an awakened sinner. Now that's true. You let an awakened sin ner go In practically any church and tell the Bible teacher he Is awakened to the fact he is a lost sinner, the teacher will not know what to do with him. I've wit nessed that happen. Then why Is It our Bible teachers and preachers don't understand an awakened sinner? Because the vast majority of our Bible teach ers and preachers have been brought Into the church, educat ed In the Bible schools and sem inaries without ever having been bought under HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTION. That will Include almost 99.0% of our religious leaders today. Before any sin ner can be saved he first has to be awakened to his lost and mined condition, that's accord ing to Eph. 2:1: "And you hath he Quickened, who were dead In trespasses and sins." The word "Quickened" means made alive or awakened. By nature you are dead, I don't care whether you have never been awakened to your lost condition. You don't even know you are dead untQ the blessed Holy Spirit awakens you. That’s the tmth you teach ers and preachers hate. Continue to listen to our late pastor, L. R.
