NAACP Wants Justice Department
To Investigate Robinson's Death
By Cassandra Wynn
THE CHARLOTTE POST
The NAACP has called for the U.S. Justice Department to in
vestigate the events that led to the death of a 24-year-old black
man while he was in the custody of Concord police.
And it looks like the government will intervene.
"We are calling for a federal investigation and an indictment
of the officers involved," said Mary Peeler, executive director
of the N.C. National Association for the Advancement of Col
ored People (NAACP).
Angelo Robinson died early July 18 after being arrested at
the Waffle House on U.S. 29 in north Concord and taken into
custody by police. As he was being apprehended, police used
pepper spray to subdue him.
The death, which angered black residents sparked a night of
rioting July 18. Robinson's funeral was Saturday.
Robinson's family has joined the NAACP's efforts to get the
federal government to intervene.
'We see a broader picture here," Peeler said. "A person is
dead." She said that the Incident bears a close likeness to the
Rodney King Incident. 'The only difference is that there is no
video."
In addition to the intervention of the Justice Department,

NEW YORK - The skinhead
movement has become the
nation's most violent white
supremacist organization,
committing 22 killings in
the last three years while ex

watchdog group said.
The number of skinheads
has grown steadily since
1988, when 1,500 members
were reported in 12 states,
according to the report from
the Anti-Defamation League
of B'nai B'rith, a Jewish or

all but 10 states, the report
said.

their use of the rope and the

While exceeding the esta

skinheads are turning to
hate groups such as the Man,
Aryan Nation and the White
Aryan Resistance as allies,
the report said. These older
groups use the skinheads as
