Currently La Tanya teaches Kindergarten at Winterfield Elementary and is Math Their Way Instructor for the Center for Innovation in Education. Her education career has includ ed teaching 1st, K-1, 1-2 grades, reading courses - undergrad uate level at Johnson C. Smith University, graduate school pro fessor in math at the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, Teach a Teacher Science Instructor for CMS Schools, and Baretta-Lorton Reading Instructor. She received the Outstanding Elementary Mathematics Teacher of the Tear Award in 1984 for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. La Tanya was the presenter for the Math Their Way Reimion Conference in California and Bos ton, as well as the North Carolina Math Conference. She is a member of TAWL (Teachers of Whole Language). La Tanya is married to Herbert, they have one son Alan, 15 years of age, and loving memories of their daughter, Toyana. The family attends Simp- son-Gillespie United Methodist Chiurch.
