13A RELIGION/The Charlotte Post July 25, 1996 The Prophet’s Column Paid advertisement by J.M Little “The Woman's Place In The Home” We are looking this time at the woman’s place in the home according to God’s Word. Genesis 3:26 says; “...and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and HE SHALL RULE OVER THEE.” Jehovah God positively set man as head over the woman and women are not equal with men. When you say that women are equal with men you are calling God a liar! Now this Scripture does away with the false idea that women are on equal footing or rulership with men. But many of you women are following the Equal Rights Movement for women and the end of it and YOU is Hell! You are in rebellion against God’s Order! Man can not rule himself. The last almost six thousand years has proved that. The Lord estab lished the first home and He made man the head of it. There has to be a head in everything. Just how many of you women are obedient to your husbands? , No woman has ever been saved or ever will be saved until she first learns obedience to her husband. How many of our homes are living hells because of a hardhearted disobedient woman. That's right. There is no rottenness in a man’s bones like a rebellious woman. A home where a woman is in charge is a living hell for that man, and that woman is in rebellion against God. Titus 2: 4-5 says; “That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love then- husbands, to love their children! To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to then- own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." You elderly women are told to teach the young women how to keep a home and care for their hus bands. And that means teaching them how to cook. Most of the young women who get married do not know how to cook a decent meal. One woman said her son married a girl with a master’s degree, but she couldn’t boil water. And when a man comes home from work he wants to sit down to a meal and when that woman can’t cook he is so miserable. Then and there a lot of men go out looking for a good meal elsewhere. You women think on that. In salva tion there cannot be but one wiU - Christ. And in the home there cannot be but one wiU, the hus band's. Only one can rule a home peacefully, the husband. Any time a woman is always going about criticizing or always finding some excuse to not do what he says, that woman has wrecked her home. Now many of you hardhearted jezebels have destroyed your homes and made your husbands and chil dren miserable. I’ve heard this; “me obey that!” Yes, no matter what, you are to be — in subjec tion to that man, that is God’s Order! God's Word is relevant Some tongues deceptive By Harvey Shropshire SPECIAL TO THE POST Enough is enough. Something needs to be done to stop certain behaviors, mas querading as signs of the Holy Spirit, from threatening the sanity and spirituality of the church. These learned behav iors (speaking in tongues and “holy” laughter) need to be addressed with Biblical schol arship to expose the non-bibli- cal nature of these behaviors. It is imperative that the church becomes informed about how to address these issues in preparation for the new century. If not, then the church exposes itself to the deceptive wimps of mind- manipulation wrapped in speculative theology: a world of mindless theology. Case in point, there are some believers who teach that the Devil can prevent God from hearing in tongues is not biblically correct. This learned behavior is not what Paul means by “speaking in tongues.” Furthermore, the word “unknown” is not writ ten in the original Greek text of First Corinthians 1:2. It is a man-made insertion. This artificialized Pentecostic expe rience needs to be demystified. There are reports that church members are literally falling out of their pews and rolling in the aisles. These churches are being seized by a psychotic wave of uncontrol lable “laughter,” leaving its members to lie on the floor either in a shaking, uncontrol lable manner or in a catatonic state. This laughter is inter preted as being the work of the Holy Spirit, therapeutical ly laughing peoplels miseries away. (I am writing the study, “The Joke: The Devil Has the Church Laughing,” to address this particular issue.) She is very committed to helping people and this opportunity will help her devel op an even stronger character.” McLaughlin said she knows that going to help the people in Nicaragua is going to be hard work. “I don’t feel like I’m going to an exotic place or something like that, I know that I am going to do a job,” she said. McLaughlin raised $1400 to make the trip. “I raised a good portion of the money myself, but I got a lot of support from my family, my friends, and from the Witness For Peace organization,” she said. She’s concerned about being able to speak flu ent Spanish so that she can really communi cate with the residents, but said, “I’m not really worried about that because my mother can help me with my Spanish.” Black nun evicted from apartment By Eric Fidler THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CHICAGO - They were like family, the two nuns and their landlords in a Chicago apart ment building. But a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday says that changed when one of the women moved out and a black nun moved in. Sister Kathleen Burke, a member of the Indiana-based Sisters of Providence, said she and a white nun were treated well by Clarence and Eileen Jacobs for two years. But when her roommate moved out of the largely white neighborhood in July 1994 and sister Phillis Sheppard of the same order moved in, Burke received an eviction notice. “In our hearts, we just can't imagine this kind of thing happening to a religious figure,” said Aurie Pennick, president of the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities. “This is the kind of thing unfortunately that is a daily occurrence in our country,” she said. The council, a fair housing organization, has joined the lawsuit that was filed in U.S. District Court amid charges the landlords were drag ging their feet during hearings on the discrimi nation charge at the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. The Jacobs could not be reached for comment. Their lawyer denied the charges. Burke said she was told the landlord wanted to rent the apartment to an in-law, but after they moved out in September 1994 the apart ment was put on the open market and not rent ed to a relative. Some people are desperate for any kind of a sign or an emotion that cate gorically gives them mental assurance that God “dwells” in them. They need to under stand that these signs, no matter how real or convincing, are false pacifiers. The church needs to get back to the basics: Jesus is all that one needs. He is the only means to the Father. When one believes and accepts Jesus as Savior, then God gives him or her Holy Spirit as a gift to help remind him or her of the Will of God. If that doesn’t make Christians laugh, then nothing will. Harvey L. Shropsire is the associate professor of Biblical Languages and Old Testament Metrolina Extension Center- Seminary and Emmanuel Baptist Seminary. Spirituality vs. religion Continued from page 11A but then there is that spiritual part that causes every man to make a decision as to how he is going to live, religiously, and or spiritually.” Dean Walker, 26, an employee of the Charlotte Utility Department said, “I believe that spirituality deals with a persons heart, mind and soul and the belief that they have in a supreme being. “I believe that spirituality is more important than religion because spirituality deals with a person’s relationship with God on a one-on-one basis,” Walker said. Rev. Johnny Thompson, pas tor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Gastonia, also believes that there is a dif ference between religion and spirituality. “Religion can be anything that you believe in. A person can have a religious belief and still be an atheist.” Thompson, who has pastored for 13 years, believes in new birth spirituality. This is when a person has been baptized and has confessed his sins before God and allows the spirit of Christ to dwell in them. Thompson, 52, said: “Spirituality is more important than religion because spirituali ty deals with the soul and not the external part of man. God looks at the heart of man and his actions as to how he treats people and when it boils down to it that is what truly matters.” Beeper Haus, Inc * No Credit Clieck * No Contnact * No Deposit • N.C. & s.c.
