The music is enticing, slamming on occa sion. His delivery is fluid. “Hitman,” the remix of “A Who Seh Me Dun” and “One Lick” will have reggae aficionados in dance heaven. Ranks also invites a gaggle of folks to sing along. Shaggy makes an appearance on “Waste A Time,” as does Barrington Levy on “My Woman.” This will more than satisfy Ranks’ fans and may pick up a few more along the way. Malka THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CONCORD, N.H. - Warm weather and rain weren’t nec essarily bad for business at northern New England ski areas this holiday season. Though many resorts report ed lower th^m usual turnout, others said the warm weather and soft snow made holiday skiing feel more like spring skiing. And Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vt. reported an even better holiday season than last year. “We were probably blessed with more snow than any body,” said President and General Manager Bill Stenger, adding the resort received eight inches of fresh snow at the tail end of the big rain storm the weekend between Christmas and New Year’s. “We were selling over 3,000 tickets a day,” he said. “Last year everybody in the universe had fantastic skiing so the market was spread out all over the place,” but this year the resort attracted people “searching out the good snow” from all over New England and eastern Canada. Other resorts in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont were less fortunate snow-wise, but still managed to make the most of what they had. A Sunapee Ski Area employ ee said the weather didn’t cooperate, but snow already on the ground provided enough coverage for people to have a good time. And while warm weather and rain may have kept some people away from the slopes over the holidays, snowmaking and grooming kept the slopes ski-ready at most ski areas. Workers said daily numbers were dovm, but since the usual one-week Christmas/New Year holiday extended to two weeks, overall numbers didn’t dip too low. “Since Christmas week was stretched to two weeks, we foimd a lot of families in the area, and though each day was not a gemg-buster day, overall we fared well,” said Bretton Woods Ski Area spokesman Ben Wilcox . “I wovdd have loved to have seen a lot more people,” he said. “I do think there is some fear that there isn’t snow on the movmtains because there isn’t snow in the back yard.” “They’re forecasting snow at the end of this week,” he said hopefully.
