6A NEWS/ The Charlotte Post Thursday,April 3,1997 Fight ends with acquittal Continued from page 1A “I want to go to games and enjoy games,” Outing said. “I have been going since he was in ninth grade. I’m a single parent and he looks for me there at those games.” Outing said she stiU feels the school system has failed her, first by not disciplining Holden and by not responding to her complaints. In a letter dated July 8 to board members, Outing gave her account of the incident. The incident began when Holden’s son, Ben, a North play er, was charged with a foul after knocking one of Harding’s play ers into the bleachers. Leroy Livingstone recruits from AMEZ Church Continued from page 6A Also, Livingstone will match scholarships and financial awards given to students by their local churches, regardless of denomination. Students must have a letter from their local pastor and some type of verification by the church’s Christian education director or Sunday school teacher. Kinard said it has formd that students who have strong church ties usually make for better students. “If a student is weU-connected to a local church, then that stu dent brings certain values and behavioral tendencies to college life,” she said. “Livingstone desires students who are well adjusted and serious about col lege level study. Surely, our base ought to be with our own sponsoring organization, the AME Zion Church.” Holden became enraged and cursed officials, who gave him a technical foul. Outing said she tried to inter cede when Holden started yelling expletives at Harding coaches and players. Words were exchanged. “This became a heated conver sation,” she said. “ The coach’s wife got between us and told me to take our black (expletive) on, at which we began to have words.” When Outing and other par ents protested Holden’s actions, including passing out letters at the high school playoff games. Outing said she was arrested on the assault charge filed a month after the incident by the coach’s wife. “I never touched anybody,” Outing said. Apparently the Superior Court jury believed her. She will not have to serve the years proba tion nor pay the $100 fine imposed in district court. All it costs her was $3,000 to pay an attorney to clear her name. School officials have either declined comment about the incident,or contended action taken to date, the suspension of Holden’s son, was sufficient. ‘To this day I have not heard a response finm the school board,” Outing said. “No one ever wrote me and said they were investi gating or anything. Tm stiU angry the system has done nothing,” Outing said. “They let me down. They let the basketball team down.” “All I want done is justice and till this day I have not gotten justice at aU. I’m stUl angry with the system.” Charlotte’s Largest Flooring Showroom coo /C1 o 1 4600 TTVyon Sc. rvjoo-Fri. 9-7pm ^VV-OlUl Old L.w=.
