Lomax will suc ceed William H. Gray, III as president and CEO of UNCF. Lomax, president of Dillard University in New .Orleans, will ofScially join UNCF on dime 1. ‘We are extremely excited about the selection of Dr. Michael Lomax,” said Michael H. Jordan, chairman & CEO of EDS, and chair man of U N C F ’ s Board of Directors. "Dr. Lomax brings a wealth of talent and experience to this organiza tion and we are confident that his impressive back ground in education, man agement and fundraising, will help UNCF continue to grow and expand its mis sion.” ‘UNCF plays a critical role in creating educational opportunities for deserving young men and women and in supporting historically black colleges and universi ties,” Lomax said. "I am hon ored to have this opportunity and look forward to this exciting new challenge.” Lomax has served as pres ident of UNCF member col lege Dillard University since 1997, where he implemented a variety of successful initia tives to strengthen the insti tution. During' his tenure, student enrollment increased by 49 percent, pri vate funding by 300 percent, and alumni giving more than 2,000 percent. In addition, he led an aggressive $60 milhon cam pus renovation program to improve the li-ving and learn ing environment for Dillard students. Lomax has been on the faculties of Morehouse College and Spelman College and has taught at Emory University, University of Georgia, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. "I think he has an intimate understanding of the chal lenges HBCUs face and the role UNCF plays in‘support ing these ■vital institutions,” said Sebetha Jenkins, presi dent of UNCF member insti tution Jarvis Christian College and chair of UNCF member presidents. "Not only has he successfully led a UNCF college, but he has also taught at two UNCF colleges and is a graduate of a UNCF member institu tion.” Throughout his career, Lomax has demonstrated strong management skills and knowledge of fundrais ing.
