ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS
THE TOWN OF CANTON. North Carolina, is continuing a series of
projecLs to repair damages to public buildings and infrastructure from the
floods of September 2004. This is the announcement of the project entitled
“Miscellaneous Infrastructure”, which includes multiple project locations.
A SINGLE General Construction Bid will be received in an envelope that
is clearly marked with the project name and the notation “BID - DO NOT
OPEN”.
SEALED BIDS for the Miscellaneous Infrastructure project will be
received by the Town of Canton at 58 Park Street, Canton, NC. 28716, Attn:
A1 Matthews, up to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2006, and immediately
thereafter they will be publicly opened and read aloud.
A mandatory Pre-Bid conference for the Miscellaneous Infrastructure
project will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at 9:00 a.m., beginning at
the Armory site and progressing to the other sites, thereafter.
The project generally consi.sts of the furnishing of all labor, materials,
equipment and services necessary or required for the complete
rehabilitation of infrastructure at the following locations:
Stadium Gravity Sewer: Installation of gravity sewer line and manholes,
force main, various associated repairs and abandonment of existing sewer
line and manholes.
Wastewater Lift Stations: Installation of various repairs and improvements
at four (4) wastewater lift station sites.
Bridge Utility Lines: Repair, replacement and/or installation of waterlines
and/or sewer force mains hung beneath four (4) bridges across the Pigeon
River.
Raw Water F^mp House: Foundation and miscellaneous repairs at the raw
water pump house.
Plus Cleaners; Storm water drainage and parking lot repairs.
Holtzclaw Street: Retaining wall, curb and gutter installation and roadway
repair.
Fibcrville Road: Roadway repair and realignment and sewer line and force
main replacement.
Armory: Stormwater drainage and parking lot repair.
Recreation Park; Replacement of selected asphalt walking trail and
installation of chain link fencing.
East Ballfield: Replacement of an asphalt driveway entrance and concrete
curb, gutter and sidewalk.
Copies of the Contract Documents may be obtained at the office of the
Engineer, McGill Associates, P.A., located at 55 Broad Street, Asheville,
North Carolina 28801 or Post Office Box 2259, Asheville, North Carolina
28802 upon payment of $75.00 for each set. There will be no refund to any
party for Contract Documents so obtained.

General Contractors are notified that Chapter 87, Article i, General Statutes
of North Carolina, will be observed in receiving and awarding the General
Contract for .each project. General Contractors submitting bids on this
project must have appropriate license classification for the work. All
bidders shall be properly licensed at the time of bid submittal. Each bidder
shall make positive efforts to use small and minority owned business
enterprises on these projects.
No bids will be withdrawn or modified after the scheduled closing time for
the receipt of bids, for a period of sixty (60) days.
The Bid shall be accompanied by a CERTIFIED CHECK or CASHIERS
CHECK payable to the Town of Canton, NC, or a satisfactory BID BOND
executed by a corporate surety licensed under the laws of North Carolina to
execute such bonds, in the amount equal to five percent (5%) of the total of
the Bid for the associated project.
The successful bidder shall be required to furnish separate
PERFORMANCE and PAYMENT BONDS for one-hundred percent
(100%) of the contract price in compliance with North Carolina General
Statutes Section 143-129 and of Article 3 of Chapter 44A. The
Performance Bond shall be in full force and effect for one (1) year after the
date of final acceptance of the associated project by the Owner.
The Bid deposit shall be retained by the Owner if the successful bidder fails
to execute the contract or fails to provide the required bonds, as stated
above, within ten (10) days after a>yard of the contract.
The Owner reserves the right to waive any informality or reject any or all
bids. The Owner reserves the right to award a contract to the lowest,
responsive, responsible bidder for each project.
A conditional or qualified Bid will not be accepted.

LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT
Gaston County is requesting sealed bids for the water line extension in the
Queens Road/Queens Court neighborhood south of Gastonia. The project
consists of the following: Installing 7968 I f of 8” and 366 I f of 2” water
line. 19 fire hydrants, and connecting 105 single family homes with
connections. Each existing well shall be disconnected from the units and
spigots in.stalled at the wells.
