Grace AME Zion sold to preservationists

Zion Publishing House at 6
South College Street. On
August 16,.1887, the Board.of
Trustees of Grace Chapel
bought a lot on S. Brevard
Street (then called “B”
Street), the present site of the
church, to be used for their
own building. The lot, pur
chased for $600.00, measured
99 front feet on “B” Street,
and was 198 feet deep.”
“The building has an inter
esting architecture,” Morrill
said. “It’s a great building.”
But too small for growth at
the current church.
“We have grown so much
and in so many ways over the
past few years,” says Anna
Kate Davis, chairman of the
Trustee Board. “Our current
location can no longer meet
our growing needs. Our new
location provides us the
opportunity to build a new
sanctuary and supporting
campus, continue to grow our
congregational membership
and to develop outreach pro
grams to serve the growing
populous in the University
area.”
Morrill said the future for
the uptown church is to stabi
lize the building and put it up
for sale and in tdie deed it will
be a provision so that it won’t
be tom down.
Tb celebrate the moving of
the church, the congregation
of Grace AME Zion has
planned an “exodus” from the
old sanctuary.

The Rev. WiHiam G. Chrys-

He said those four freedoms,
identified in a 1941 speech by
President Frankhn Roosevelt,
are fteedom fix)m want, free

“In Pat’s case especially,
may we never tire until all are

faith that sustained them in
life and gave them hope in
death,” Chrystal said.

Wiccans worship the Earth
and believe they must give to
the community. Some consid
er themselves “white” or good
witches, pagans or neo
pagans.
Approximately 1,800 active-
duty service members identify
themselves as Wiccans,
according to 2005 Defense
Department statistics.
At the memorial cemetery
near the city park, state Adj.
