The first fea- Robert McCullough, Rock Hill civil rights leader, dies at age 64 THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ROCK HILL, S.C.-Robert McCullough, the leader of a group of Rock HUl students who served 30 days in jail for sitting at a whites-only lunch coimter during tlie civil rights movement, died Monday A cause of death was not given, Robinson Ftineral Home spokesman Samuel Reid said. McCullou^ was 64. McCullough, along with eight other black students from Friendship Junior Col lege, used the ‘jail, no bail” technique in 1961 after they were arrested. Given the option of paying a $100 fine or jail time, the stud^ts—called the Friendship Nine—chose to serve hard labor on a chain gar^ rather than pay the fine, gaining widespread media attention. McCullough, who was selected as the group’s leader, chose to sit at a whites-only lunch counter in downtown Rock HUl. The men demanded service, were arrested and chained with trespassing and breach of peace. McCullough “did all the detail work and made sure everything was in place,” said David Williamson, a group member. “He was like oxir teacher.” Another member of the group saj^ initially he thought McCullough was crazy but eventually the leader made bim reahze change was needed. “I could have eaten any where I wanted it,” Thomas “Dub” Massey said. “I didn’t have to sit on that white stool in that white dime store.” But Massey, then 18, says McCuUou^ helped him ognize what was happening at the lunch counters was wror^. “After talking to Robert, I felt like I needed to be involved and be part of the change. He said, ‘It’s not just about you, Dub. This is for all cfbumanity”’ $0£it; News you can get your hands on The Prophet’s Column, Inc. 6183 NC109 South Wadesboro, NC 28170-9533 August, 2006 Newsletter - Part I J.M. Little, Teacher Dear Friends: We praise the Lord we can greet you again in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation in Christ is the greatest thing that can happen to a sinner in this life. It is not going to happen to but a few in the closing days. I would you knew the greatness and joy of knowing Christ as your Lord and your Saviour. The beloved Apostle Paul was the greatest representative the Lord ever had on earth. And he said in I Cor. 2:2: “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." Let me ask you the personal question: "DO YOU KNOW THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED?" I do. You will respond: “I guess so. I accepted Jesus back there when I was young and joined the church." That is not what I am asking you, friend. I want to know if you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and your Saviour. Your response is a dead giveaway that you know not the Lord Jesus Christ. Note that Paul said: "....and Him crucified." Has the Crucified Christ been revealed to your heart? When the Holy Spirit opens a sinner’s heart to deal with that sinner for salvation, the Holy Spirit shows you, sinner, that you crucified Christ! Have you ever seen that it was you that crucified Christ? if not, you are not saved! Read about it over there in Zech. 12:10.
