Two blocks away Mass was under way at the Grace Epis copal Church, which, took on 4 feet of water. It has been open for months but the signs of Katrina are everywhere: The doors are warped, windows are broken and construction material sits in the hallways. The shadow of Katrina hung over the Mass on Sun day, which was dedicated to the people killed during Kat rina- During the intercession, the parishioners - some with tears in their eyes — slowly read the names of the dead and lit candles representing the souls of those who per ished. Bells tolled overhead. "Light emerges from dark ness,” the Rev. Walter Baei* said, "and darkness does not overcome it.” Authors explore coimectioiis ADVERTISEMENT Continued from page 4B us into many of the problems we now find ourselves in— from 9/11 to the Israel- Lebanon conflict to the ban on stem cell research,” says Dolan, Houghton Mifflin’s vice president and editor in chief Others, such as Jonathan hfiUer, a Democrat and Ken tucky’s state treasurer, see a positive, unifying role for reli gion. Little, Teacher Yes, you will learn under Holy Spirit conviction (Jn. 16:7-11) that you put Christ to death on the Cross. If you have never been taught that by the Spirit of God, you are not saved! You church folks say you are saved, but you’ve never seen that you put Christ to death. And if it ever pleases my Heavenly Father to show you that you crucified Christ, there will go up from your heart a mourning that you've never known before. Miss this great and bitter mourning, as laid out there in Zech. 12:10, and you’ll bust hell wide open. You church members are so light and frivolous. It is because there never has come a deep sense of your sins against a Thrice Holy Majesty, and particularly the Lord Jesus Christ. I challenge any man, anywhere in the world; 1 don’t care how many degrees you have before or after your name, brother. I don’t care if you have preached in 200 countries around the world. I don’t care if you have 100 diplomas and certificates behind your name. If this deep mourning over sin has not taken place in your heart as set forth by the old prophet, you ate not saved! I’ll stake the eternal destiny of my soul on that statement. Our church members, beginning in the pulpit and classrooms, have never seen that you are guilty of crucifying the Lord Jesus Christ! And this is why Christ is not a living reality to your heart! Dr. James R.
