Knox, a gradu ate from North Carolina State University, has spent more than a quarter of century of dedicated ser vice to the frater nity • Marcel Jackson has been awarded E. Pat HaU Scholarships by Paramount’s Carowinds. The honor awards five $1,000 scholar ships annually to outstanding sea sonal employees to Thompson attend college. Jackson is a sophomore at South Carolina State University, where he is studying market ing. • Natasha Thompson, a teacher at Garinger High School, earned a Billy O. Wireman Leadership Award Sum the World Affiars Council of Charlotte. Thompson will particpate in Global Links’ Global Educators program. • Stephen Joyner Jr. has been named assis tant women’s basketball coach at Johnson C. Smith University Joyner, a 2001JCSU graduate, was women’s assistant coach at UNC Asheville and spent the previous four years at N.C. Central University Before that he was an assistant coach at Livingstone College, where he worked for his vmde, Ed Joyner. As a collegiate player, Joyner Jr. was the startup point guard on the 2001 team that won JCSU’s fimt CIAA cham pionship and advanced to the NCAA Division 11 Elite Ei^t. Layla McCall has been named head athletic trainer at Johnons C. Smith University McCall, a 2000 Florida A&M University graduate, comes to JCSU fium Fort Valley State University in Georgia, where she was the trainer for two years. Before that, she was a graduate assistant at the University of Geoigia, where she worked in the football pro gram, a first for a woman. • Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics promoted Jessen Houston to assistant fitness manage, where the emphasis is on maintain ing a high level of programming • Simone Orendain of WFAE Radio earned a Green Eyeshade award for excellence in jour nalism from the Sodety of Professional Journalists Atlanta Chapter for her report on Hispanic banking, which examined Charlotte- area banks’ efforts to provide expanded ser vices to Spanish-speaking customers.
