their spouse. “Some people
try to shake o£f their old
spouse and find someone that
is already religious,” he said.
But that doesn’t work
either. “The Bible says that
you can not take the sphnter
out of someone else’s hand
without removing the plank
fixim your hand first,” he said.
Having counseled couples
for more than 10 years,
Rivers has seen couples bring
baggage into marriages that
have destroyed relationships.
“A lot of people have fear
that things won't work out
and it becomes a self-fulfilling
prophecy” he said.
In the book, Rivers uses
scripture and anecdotes to
illustrate problems couples
face and highlights solutions.
While Rivers said some peo
ple may pick up the book
thinking that they’re going to
change their spouse, the per
son who benefits most is the
reader.

Catholic bishops,” Stallings
said.
While Milingo would have
needed Vatican permission to
make the ordinations heit,
Stallings said no such per
mission is required to make
them valid under Canon law.
Milingo has said that the
head of the Vatican’s Congre
gation for Bishops has
demanded he send a letter of
repentance by Oct. 15 to Pope
Benedict XVI or face “canoni
cal suspension.”
The Vatican said Milingo
violated churdi law when he
created “the so-called 'Mar
ried Priests Now’ associa
tion,” and when he previously
celebrated Mass with mar
ried clergy A “canonical sus
pension” would bar Milingo
fium ordaining priests, lead
ing Mass and performing
other sacraments, according
to the Rev. Thomas Reese, a
Jesuit writer and erqjert on
the church.
Milingo, 76, has had a trou
bled relationship with the
Vatican for years.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
MYRTLE BEACH-Linda
McDandel was moved when a
woman came to her churcdi
one day seekir^ help to get
out of the sex industry
That encounter and others
helped McDandel and her
pastor' realize there was a
need for a local ministry that
helps women who want to
leave tire business.
In 2005, New Da-wn/New
Day was bom to serve that
need.
The nonprofit Christian
ministry is dedicated to help-
ir^ women leave sexually ori
ented businesses by providing
a spiritual, emotional, educa
tional and financial bridge to
a new life, said McDandel,
executive director of New
Dawn/New Day
The organization, which
works with women at its Myr
tle Beach office, sought hous
ing for the women at one
point.
But after facing opposition
fium Horry County and Myr
tle Beach communities that
rejected the idea of a group
home for the women in their
area, the ministry decided
group housing no longer was
a viable option, McDandd
said.
The organization is moving.
forward with its program, she ,
said.
“Our mission is neither to
enact morahty nor to tiy to
shut down sexually oriented
businesses, but to provide a.
bridge for those desiiing to ,
change lifestyles,” McDandel
said.
“When you love the Lord,
and walk with him, you are 1
compelled through love to -
serve him where he reveals a •
specific need. .;
“I then started researching
to find out what other min-,
istries, if any, seived this spe-'. -
dfic group of women. I found,
several, and we have modeled
off of them,” she said.
