4B LIFE/ Charlotte Thursday, June 14,2007 Urban League seeks members • By Cheiis F. Hodges cheffs.hodges@fhecharioffepost.com The Urban League of Central Carolinas is looking for new members. The goal of this year’s membership drive is to raise $40,000, said Trineka Greer, director of development at the Urban League. “Membership is an investment in the Urban League,” Greer said. "We use that money to make an impact in the community. The more members we have, the more peo ple we can accept into our programs.” Urban League-sponsored programs in Charlotte include workforce development, summer camps and a technology program for youth. In order to reach its goal, the Urban League will host a luncheon on June 29 to sign up team captains to raise funds during the membership drive. In addition to seeking new members and asking former members to renew, the Urban League is also looking for individuals to become membership team captains to so licit new members at work, social groups, neighborhoods or place of worships, said Greer. "We always have a need for members and volunteers," she said. Urban League members, according to Greer, are mentors and help ready community members for the work force. One of the programs the Urban League is looking to bol ster is its Urban Youth Empowerment Program, said Greer. To attend the luncheon, you must commit to being a team captain and RSVP to Greer at info(®urbanleaguecc.org or (704) 373-2256 ext 205.
