Ctrit li, Jr., Eclltor and Proprietor. WILML1GTOX, SOttTH-CAROilSA. SIX DOLUilS AYC.1UMADVJL1CIJ VOL. III. NO." 279. FRIDAY EVENING, JANUARY 30, 1857, WHOLE NO. 899 retaliation in Consumption. Brdnehitis, Laryngites and other Disease of the Chest an Throat, sucsessfully treated by the Inhalation of Medicated Vapors and Powders, by Absorption and eon n n h xl treatment, as practiced at the "Stuyvesant Med cil In3titate,Xew York City. x Diseases of the Heart Liter i Female Complaints, Dyspepsia, Venereal. Affec tions, and Chronic Diseases generally, will receive the attention of the Physicians, to whom sticfc may have been gpeaeiaUy entrusted. , . The unpreceiente J success which has attended this method of treating di3ease3 of the Lungs and Throat, hai induced U3 to depart from our usual course, andavail ourselves of the Press, in order to bring it to the knowl edge of sash a? miy b3 laboring under, or predisposed to such affections. 4Y ' The dawn of a brighter day ha3 at length arrived for the Consumptive. The doctrine of the incurabllityxof Consumption has at length passed away. We have in dubitable proofs in our possession, th&t Consumption in all its stages cm be cured ; in the first, by tubercular ab Eorjjtioa; in the second, by the transformation of tub ercule Into chalky and - calcareous concretions ; in the third by cicatricior scars. Those wedded to the past, nuy 43.: rt, that even now Consumption is incurable ; uch are behiad the aze. To all, this great truth mast be apparent.' viz : that medicines inhaled in the form of Vapor or Powder directly into the Lungs, must be much more effectual than that taken into the Stomach where the disease dees not exist. The advantages derived from Inhalation in the treatment of Consumption and Throat diseases are, that medicines in the form of Va por3 are applied directly to Jhe lungs, where the disease exisU ; the stomach being left free to aid in restoring health, by ad ministering to it, he9althy, life-giving food. There is no case $p hopeless that j Inhalation will not reach; the means too are brought within the reach of all, the manner of administering the Vapor3 being so simple, that the invalid is never required to leave home, whr ro the hand3 of friendship and affection tend to aid so uaeh the Physician's efforts. I earnestly appeal to the .ntelligence of all afflicted with diseases, or who may re tha germs of the -disease within them, to embrace t once the advantages of inhalation, and no longer waste Precious time in applying nostrums to the unoffending stomach: I claim for Inhalation a place amongst the precious gifts that ' Nature and Art have given us, that 'our days may be long in the land," and as the only "Ark of RiFoaE" for the Consumptive; a method not Onlv RATIONAL BUT SIMPLE. SAFE, AX EFFICIENT. Such of the profession that have adopted Inhalation, bare found it efficacious in the highest degree, arresting the progress of the disease, and working wonders in many desperate case3 ; in verity, a triumph of our Art, over this fell destroyer of our species. N"oTE.Phy3ician3 wishing to make themselves ac quainted with this practice, are informed, that our time ijing valuable, we can only reply, a3 to ingredients used, to such letters that contain a fee. The fee in all itases of Pulmonary affections, will be $10, on receipt of vhick, the necessary medicines and instrument will be "forwarded.- The fee in other cases, . will be from $5 to $10. ' y Applicants will state age, sex, occupation, married or single, how long affected, if any hereditary disease ex Ht3 in the family, and symptoms generally. In all various trades, and in sewing every sort of fabrics, either cloth or leather, they have besn fully-tried and approvod. Sewing machines of other, manufacturers often fail to work, but SINGER'S MACHINES AL WAYS OPERATE PERFECTLY, being strong, dura, blcand complete in contrivance and workmanship. A perfect sewing machine kept employed affords a clear profit bf 1 t0ii) a year ; but an imperfect one is a cau3e of constant vexation and loss. The entire, reliability of our machines is one great reason for their unparal leled popularity. MACHINES FOR FAMILY SEWING, of a frail delicate Construction, are recommended by other manufacturers Such machines are made to catch the eye, not to perform substantial work. The truth is, family sewinr machines ought to be stronger than any other, because they go into le33 skillful hands than when sold to manulacturers, and are used Tor a greater variety of work The machines which have pro ved best for all other purposes must be best for family use, and they are Singer's. The speed of our machines has lately been doubled- No other can compare with them in quantity of work. X ' i XW New machines o the latest improved style will be exchanged on liberal term3 for old sewing machines of our own make, or for operative -machines of other manufacturers. Local agent3 wanted to sell our ma chines. ' N. B. : All per30n3 desiring full information about sewing machines, can obtain it by applying for a copy of "I. M. Singer St Jo.'s Gazette," a paper devoted en tirelv to the subject. It will be sent gratis. -' I. M. SINGER & CO. Principal Office, 323 Broadway, New York.
