Hicks.) Spencer, Feb. 11. East . Spencer has a new chief of police and town marshal, Mr. J. L Williams, a well known citizen, having been elected to office by the board of aldermen at a recent meeting. He has already been sworn into office and has mu nicipal matters well in hand.' Mr. Williams succeeds Mr. J. H. Kesler, who had been an officer of the town for some four or five years. - Fire which originated from a de fective stove' flue did about $1000 damage at the home of Mr. Jack Movery in East Spencer shortly be fore noon today; The blaze was dis covered in time to save the residence by the use of garden hose The fire men were called but the fire was un der control when the company reach ed th scne. The East Spencer school building is being wired for electric lights and other improvements are being made to the plant. Principal H. J. Peler, who is also mayor of the town, states that the school which has an enroll ment, of 250 will continue until the last of May or' first of June and that fine work is being done. The President was interrupted by applause at every mention of the United States standing stead fastly against a patched up peace. Probably the greatest applause broke out when the President de clared the militarists of Germany were the only elements now pre venting a world peace.. Cabled to All Governments. Washington, Feb. 11. It was under his direction that American First" made such a hit in Spencer some weeks ago. It is ex. pec ted that "Powhatan" will be even better and that the school building will be crowded.
