C, to see his son, Basil C. Manly, who is stationed there. The Lotus Concert Company, the last attraction of th Y. M. C. A. Ly ceum Course will appear at the Com munity building next Tuesday even ing, May 7th at 8:30 o'clock. It will be remembered that the company was forced to cancell their engagement here several week ago owing to the illness of a member of the company. Mr. Thos. P. Johnston, who is to graduate from the Richmond Theolog ical Seminary next Sunday and be or dained a Presbyterian minister, was in the city yesterdaiyi afternoon with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Johnston, on North Main street, leaving last niaht for Richmond. He had been to Black Mountain where ho filled the pulpit of the Presbyterian church there Sunday. Modern Woodmen of Western North Carolina are holding a conference anJ school of instruction at thair hall, on Fnnia street today, John H. Sundean, the newly appointed State Deputy, to gether with nan yi of the prominent Assistant Deputies and Modern Wood I men generally from this section of the ' Stato are in attendance. Sundean, Organizer, who in attending the Modern Woodmen Meeting here. tended session is being held this after noon and tonight a number of new candidates will be inducted into the Salisbury camp. Mr. Sundean, was for a number of years State Deputy of Minnesota, and an organizer of ability with a vast knowledge of fraternal insurance. During the nine years that the Mod ern Woodmen have been in North Carolina they have built up a incmber- jhip of more than 6,000 members and are fast forging to the front as a fra ternal insurance organization. Mr. Sundean expects to double the mem bership in the State during the first year and will inaugurate a state wide campaign beginning with the sessions being held here. Wilfley, member of the St. Ijouis boari of elertion commissioners and a well Imown Democrat of Missouri, tonight was tendered by Governor Gardiner the seat in the United Statss senate vacated 'by the death of Sen ator W. Dunham, Afted 30. iNat Wilson, a orominent farmer of Caswell county, 's ir a dying condition in a loal hoa oibal, suffering from two bullet wounds and other bruises as a result if an attack made on htm by Jake Jones, a negro. According to tihe story of tihe affair is told by Wilson the negro agreed to ibuy an automobile from Wilson and the two were in the machine on the way to the home of the megro's father to get the money when Jones suddenly drew a revolver and shot Wilson, two bullets enterin-T abdomen.
