Louis Stokes, president of the Baptist Student Union, said in the pres entation, “Chowan College will be forever in his debt.” He gave a short biography of Dr. Mixon and noted that when he took the helm in 1951 the school had 86 regular students, as compared with 260 in 1957. As a result of his efforts the col lege has doubled its plant value, has been fully accredited and has embarked on a ten-year building program. The response to the presentation was made by Dr. Whitaker, and the portrait was unveiled by Miss Lynn Mixon, Dr, Mixon’s daughter, “Buildings, academic accredita tion, a growing and thriving school and students made strong in ‘doing the faith’ these remain as monu ments to F. 0.
