Pag* two THE CHOWANIAN May, 1958 Seventy-Four Are On Graduation List The second largest numb« ol students in the history of Cho wan College may receive their diplomas on Monday, May 26. The list of candidates for grad uation contains the names of 74 young men and women. There were 88 candidates in 1956 and 66 last year. The baccalaureate service will be held in the college auditorium on Sunday, May 25, at 8:00 p.m. Dr. Edward A. Father's Day For Christian Education Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, has been set aside as a special day by the Baptist State Con vention of North Carolina for the taking of special offerings for Christian Education as rep resented by the seven baptist colleges in the state. A two-color folder has just been printed by students of the Roy Parker School of Printing at Chowan College for distribu tion to the churches in the five Baptist associations specifically associated with Chowan’s east ern North Carolina area. Quoting from the folder: “Father’s Day — June 15 — is the time for faithful Baptists. who recognize the vital impor tance of Christian higher educa tion in Eastern North Carolina, to be counted. “Your gift to Chowan College on Christian Education Day is an investment in the total world mission program of Southern Baptists! Our Christian Colleges are the fountainheads which send forth a continuing stream of Dedicated Homemakers, Christian Businessmen, Local Church Leaders and Denomina tional Servants.” You are urged to attend your church on Father’s Day, June 15, and make your contribution to Christian Education. Plans Program For Coming Term The Baptist Stuaent Union at Chowan recently had its Campus Retreat at which time Miss Miriam Hollis, associate to the executive secretary of the state B.S.U., met with the group and assisted the Council in plans for the new term beginning in Sentember. The schedule will include the Fall Pre-School Retreat; pro gram of fellowship and enter tainment for the incoming fresh men: campus evangelism in October; Christmas caroling in the community; Religious Em phasis Week I Christian Vocation Week; and other activities of a spiritual and cultural nature. The Greater Council will in vite members of the freshman class to serve on the various committees, of which members of the Executive Council are chairmen. These committees will work cooperatively to make the Baptist Student Union a campus- wide organization. B.S.U/s Aid Church On Sunday, May 4, members of the Baptist Student Union attended the Riverside Baptist Church, in Portsmouth, Va. The purpose of the trip was to help the church take a survey and to create interest in the church througnout the community. The students went to the ship service, had dinner, helped take the survey, had supper, and finally had charge of the pro gram for Sunday night. Those participating were Tom my Norvell, chairman, Dennis Loooer, scripture; and Joy Fer guson, evening prayer. Speakers for the occassion were Dinky Whitley on the Baptist Student Union, Ed Worley on the Minis terial Alliance, Gloria Summer on the Y.W.A., and Robert Wil liamson on music. A special duet was eiven by Audrey Adams and Robert Williamson. Speaking on Chowan’s Honor Society was Audrey Adams, on our athletic program was Wal lace Riddick, on the social ac tivities was Ann Brown, and on the Roy Parker School of Printing was Frank Meador. Those taking part in this B. S. U. Outreach program were Rob ert Davis, Robert Williamson, Bill Bailey, Pat High, A n n Brown, Arthur Harrison, Mild red Joy Ferguson, Charles Thompson, James Dauehtrey, Dennis Looper, Audrey Adams, Tommy Norvell, David Futrell, Gloria Sumner, Alene Futrell, Ed Worley, John Whitley, lace Riddick and Frances E. White, B. S. U. advisor. Bob Davis gave the benedi> tion. Then the students loaded the bus and returned after a very enjoyable and profitable day.
