The students were proud of the president of their Student Government and The Chowan- ian is glad to present his mes sage given at the dedication ceremonies. It should be of in terest to those students who did not attend, and to the parents of students, all of whom receive this newspaper. Here it is: It is, indeed, a humbling ex perience for one of my years to be called upon to represent the entire student body on such an occasion as this. And, to be called upon to follow such per sons as those who have already appeared before you is com- oarable to asking Elvis Presley to embellish a Mozart motif. Nevertneless, I count this ex perience as one of the high moments of my life, and I wel come this opportunity. My fellow students and I wish to extend to our beloved presi dent, and to Dr. Parker and all the trustees, our sincere con gratulations on this occasion. We know that it was your crea tive vision and leadership which dared to dream of such a lovely building. We know, too, that your dreams became a reality Dr. Huggins Speaking at Dedication because many friends of Chowan College backed up their faith in you with their financial support. We congratulate those of you nere who are in that large group of faithful friends. As I understand the long- range development program which the trustees projected in the fall of my freshman year, seven new buildings are the im mediate goal of the program. This new dormitory is the first of the seven. I do not live in this building, of course, at least not more than a few hours each day. But I have seen enough of it to know that it would be worthy of a place on any college campus in America. I, and my fellow stu dents, sincerely appreciate the quality of this magnificent struc ture, and we hope with all our hearts that the six buildings yet to come will be of the same beauty and permanence. We are proud of our Alma Mater—her glorious past, her noble present — and we would not be true to our deepest feel ings on this historic occasion if we did not dedicate ourselves to helping Chowan College ful fill the responsibilities of her great and challenging future. This we now do, with grateful hearts. Dr. J. P. Freeman Bill Norvell
