Mr. Phillips holds the B. A. de
gree in physical education from
Lenoir Rhyne College. He is on the
faculty of Gibsonville High School.
CAROLYN LEE COLTRAIN of
Williamston to J. C. Griffin, Jr., of
Jamesville. The rites took place in
the Macedonia Christian Church.
They make their home in Edenton
where Mr. Griffin is employed by
Robert Chemical Corporation.

Murfreesboro. Mrs. Askew grad
uated from Chowan College last
June . Mr. Askew attended Chowan
College and is presently employed
by Pope Motor Co. in Rich Square.

Mr. Francis is attending North
Carolina State College, majoring
in engineering mathematics. They
reside at 1329 Chester Road, in
Raleigh.
RACHEL ANN FORBES of Mur
freesboro to Edward Todd Cason,
Jr. of Murfreesboro. The bride is
a graduate of Murfreesboro High
School and Chowan. She is cur
rently serving in the Department
of Hospital Administration, School
of Medicine, UNC. Mr. Cason is a
graduate of Mars Hill College and
is in the School of Business Admin
istration at UNC. He is a member
of the Delta Sigma Pi. The couple
reside in Chapel Hill on Rosemary
Street.

Pa., and is currently stationed

to Cpl. Edward Ray Anderson, Jr.
of Reidsville. A graduate of Reids-
ville High School, Cpl. Anderson is
serving in the Marine Corps.
BETTY CAROLYN EVES to
James Carroll Miller on July 20 in
the Salem Baptist Church. Both
are from Elizabeth City and are
employed at Hayes Aircraft Corp.
Mr. Miller's father. Dr. L. Sigs-
bee Miller was the officiating
minister of the ceremony.

Perry of Windsor in June. Mrs.
Perry is a sophomore at East
Carolina College in Greenville. Mr.
Perry is a pre-medical student at
East Carolina. He was graduated
from Windsor High School and
Chowan.
JANE WYNDHAM RIGGAN of
Littleton to Dennis Austin Rose ,Jr,
Mrs. Rose was the 1962 Home
coming Queen at Chowan and the
1963 Homecoming Queen at N. C.
State. She attended Meredith Col
lege, where she majored in sociol
ogy. Mr. Rose, a member of Kappa
Alpha Order, is a graduate of N. C.
State with a degree in electrical
engineering. He has recently en
tered the U.S. Air Force as a sec
ond lieutenant where he is receiv
ing pilot training.
MARY LUCY HASTY of New
Bern to David Lee Fillingame of
Vanceboro on November 3. They
are making their home in Vance
boro.
GEORGE HURDLE OAKLEY of
Burlington to Carol Elaine Kallam
of Walnut Cove in August. Mr.
Oakley is continuing his education
at Elon College. He is employed
part-time by Southerland Fabrics
of Burlington.
GLENN MILLER FEREBEE of

Windsor. Both are graduates of
Windsor High School. The bride is
a senior at East Carolina College.
Mr. Ferebee is a graduate of the
school of Graphic Arts at Chowan.

a graduate of Chowan College,
Murfreesboro, N. C., used his col
lege training to full advantage
aboard the attack aircraft carrier
USS Ticonderoga CVA-14.
Williams reported aboard Ticon-
de oga in Febuary 1962 and asked
to work in the printing field. He
had completed a two year course
in Graphic Arts at Chowan College
after graduating from Waccamaw
High School in Ash. He began
work in Ticonderoga’s print shop
to “strike" for Lilhographer. He
put in his correspondence courses
which enabled him to compete in
the February 1963 Navy Fleet Wide
Advancement in Rate Examination
against all other Navy hopefuls
and advanced to lithographer third
class on July 16, 1963.

Attend Meeting
The Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools, the regional
accrediting agency, met for its 68th
annual meeting in December and
two Chowan College staff members
were in attendance.
The meeting was held in spac
ious I’eabody Hotel in Memphis,
Tenne.ssee. W. C. Morrisette, Dean
at Chowan and V. L. McBride, As
sistant to the President in charge
of Public Relations, were among
the 1100 or more persons who re
gistered. Morrisette served as the
voting delegate.
The association held four general
sessions plus numerous commis
sions and committee meetings. Af
filiated groups met seventeen
times during the week giving the
southern educators a full schedule.
Conference themes were numer
ous: accreditation, the work of
college deans, registrars and ad
missions officers, federal aid and
participation, and the place of the
church-related college in a world
of expanding dialogue, were among
them.
Chowan College is fully accred
ited by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools.

four men “striking" for a Litho
grapher rating. Ticonderoga’s print
shop supplies the ship with most
of her printing requirements. It
has two photo offset and one letter
press presses. During a normal
month, these presses print a
monthly mazazine, iniurmation
material, maps and charts, in
structions, notices and directives.
Library Receives

The Chowan College Library has
received two autographed copies of
The Master Is Here authored by
Dr. Elbert N. Johnson of Wagram,
N. C., Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker.
President, has announced.
Dr. Johnson said, “The emphasis
of The Master Is Here is on the
immediate presence of the Risen
Christ: He went out of sight when
He disappeared; He did not depart.
He can now take His stand at the
, door of every church, every heart.
I seeking to enter and to incarnate
himself in every ‘presented'
body.”
Dr. Johnson is a former pastor
in Wagram and is now retired
Dr. Whitaker
Speaker at Wake
Forest Seminary
Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker, Presi
dent of Chowan College, was the
guest speaker at Southeastern
Baptist Theological Seminary in
Wake Forest recently.
Dr. Whitaker spoke at a Tues
day morning chapel service. Dr.
E. A. McDowell of Southeastern
Seminary is chairman of the
chapel committee.
Following the morning chapel
service in Wake Forest, Dr.
Whitaker visited the grave of Dr.
Archibald McDowell, the first
president of Chowan College. 184ii-
1849 and 1862-1881, which was then
called the Chowan Baptist Female
Institute. Dr. E. A. McDowell is
Dr. Archibald McDiiwell's grand-
nephew.
People with much to do are
rarely in trouble. It is the vacant,
