He said his studies in Australia would help advance his career goal of becom ing a dentist. Australia Travels Lawson explained that the university has an enrollment of some 5,000 students and is located on a mountainous island state with a milder climate than North Carolina’s. He said Tasmania is about 150 miles off the Australian continent coast. While in Australia, he had the opportunity to travel to Melbourne, Sydney and other cities. Lawson said the emphasis in Australia is on a practical educa tion. He said you receive training and experience in the field you are entering. For example, his geology class gained practical ex perience through actually work ing out of the classroom as geologists. Lawson said he came to love Australia and appreciate its culture, people, and social life. He said the Australians, who are very “friendly and open”, are ac tive people who enjoy playing sports.
