Class of 1957
MRS. NORMA STRANGE STEM now resides in Sykesville,
Maryland, is the mother of four and the grandmother of two. She
is also a registered nurse.
Class of 1962
MR. JAMES McGILL, a native of Clinton and an executive of
Frist Union National Bank of North Carolina for approximately
22 years, has now been promoted to regional executive.
Class of 1963
MR. GEORGE H. “BUDDY” KNIGHT, who previously
served as city executive for Barclay’s Bank of North Carolina in
Tarboro, has now been named as vice president and city
executive for First Citizens Bank in Tarboro. “Buddy” is also a
director and serves on the executive committee of the Edgecombe
United Way, he is a Mason, a Shriner and chairman for the
Tarboro Rotary Club. He is a U.S. Army veteran.
MRS. SHAWN ELAINE MILLER of Columbia, South
Carolina, married James Allen Lockard of Sanford, on August
17, 1985. They now have a beautiful boy bom January 24,1988.
Class of 1966
MRS. DIANA FORDHAM GRAY, a native of Chesapeake,
Virginia, married Mr. Cliff Gray, a 1969 graduate, and now
resides in Lynchburg, Virginia. She is the owner of a small pre
school, a member of the Volunteer Emergency Foster Care, and
she has also been appointed Family Placement Coordinator for
Campbell County.
Class of 1968
MR. RICHARD T. VANN, JR., a native of Murfreesboro, has
assumed the duties of a Title ID federal grant program at
Williamsburg Technical College in Kingstree, S. C. He is also
pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Olanta and owner of Bethel
Plasti-Care Products. He is married to the former Marta Lucile
Atwell of Rancho Cordova, Calif.
MRS. JULIA McDANlAL BECKER is now teaching seniors
at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va.
Class of 1972
MISS MEREDITH LEWIS KENNEDY and Dr. Rolf Fritz
Buser were united in marriage on August 19, 1988. Meredith is a
native of North Hollywood, California. They now reside in
Lissach, Switzerland.
Class of 1973
MR. ALFRED EARL EBRON, JR., and Miss Roxanne
Elizabeth Dempsey were united in marriage on September 24,
1988, at Scotland Neck United Methodist Church. The couple
now resides in Greenville.
DR. CURTIS WILLIAMSON, a native of Roxboro and
owner/operator of the Roxboro Animal Hospital, received the
North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association 1988
“Veterinarian of the Year” Award.
Class of 1976
MRS. LYNN GRUBER POWELL, who resides m
Wallingford, Pennsylvania, is the mother of a beautiful girl,
Courtney Leigh, bom January 21, 1988.
Class of 1979
MR. TIMMIE LEE BARNES and Ms. Lorrie Smith Lynn
were united in marriage on June 25, 1988. Tmunie is employed
with Evergreen Constmction Company and Phoenix
Management Services of Raleigh as a property manager. The
couple now reside in Ahoskie.
Class of 1980
MISS JEANNE MARIE KELLEY and Mr. Christopher
Andrew Camey were united in marriage on April 23, 1988. The
couple now reside in Bristol, Connecticut.
MR. WILLIAM ROBERT STALLINGS and Miss Lori Ann
Miller were united in marriage October 1, 1988, at First Baptist
Church in Burlington. Robert is employed as a pressman with
Fisher Harrison in Greensboro and his bride is a hostess at
Ramada Inn in Burlington.

CHOWAN ALUMNI?
The Chowan College Alumni Association has the privilege of selecting a
maximum of three individuals each \;ear to receive the Distinguished Alumni
Award. The initial selection is made by the Chowan College Alumni Board
of Directors. The names of nominees are then presented to the Board of
Trustees for final approval and authorization.
The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented by Dr. Whitaker on
behalf of the Alumni Association and the College during Commencement
Exercises, Sunda\>, Ma^/14, 1989.
Nominations should be based upon the individuals’ distinguished service and
achievement in the religious, civic, and/or educational life of their com
munities or other outstanding service to their c/ty, state, and nation.
VJe need your help in selecting the 1989 recipient(s) of the Distinguished
