Notice. A Tapestry Settlement. A "Tapestry Settlement" is one of the interesting developments of the near future in the American handicrafts movement. It will be organ:zr?d by a firm which has re ceutly opened a store on Fortieth street, in New York, in which they carry only hand-made goods. For the location, they 'desire a place where wool is raised, and where there are women who still spin and weave. Such a place they can find in both Ohio and West V lrginia, andHhey will locate during the com ing summer in in one of those states Thev will offer a price for certain fabrics, woven according to their requirements, which will make a better market for the wool than the farmers are now obtaining. Then they will send an instructor among the weavers, to furnish designs and improve methods. This instructor they have already secured, in the person of a woman who has made a study of tapestry in Eur jpe. They will seek to produce all kinds of tex tiles, but the crown of the industry will be the tapestry, for the promo ters hope to establish here an indus try in which American craftswomen iball rival in time the products of Gobelin, Beauvais and Aubusson. Douglas Volk, the artist, who has given much attention to the subject, insists that, quality for quality, goods can be produced more cheap ly by band than by maohine, pro vided you deal with 4he workman direct, eliminating the profits of several middlemen. Gricrs, former attorney general of the Unit ed States, is a story teller of an un usual and decidedly pleasant sort. matter what the situation, he al ways has a little yarn quite to the point, and he relates it in a way that is worth fully as much as the Etory itself, especially if it calls for a broeue. One of his latest runs something lfke this: "When Terence Hooley reached America, he had 27 cents, fine mus cles and a big heart full of hope. He started work in a trench in the streets and ended up a3 alderman. He savs it's easy. " 'Tis the callin' of ye thot stir proised me most he told me. 'Whin Oi furst took tip the pick, ut was "Terry, mon," or just "Hi, ye." Whin Oi got to bossin' the job, nt was niver worse thin "Tirence." Whin Oi went into business an' starthed me saloon, ut was always "Hooley," an' whin Oi was control lin' a vote or two the b'ys niver fail ed' of the "Mister." Wance Oi was ilicted, ut was no less thin the "Hon'rable Tirence Hooley" thot was handed me. Qui V Vao hit oil waa trit- rt 4-ui buu uh ut au naa J lb bvs cum he continued, laughing. Thot minute the little lad3 up in the chancle got on their feet, an' whot did they start singin' but "Hooley, Hooley, Hoo ley, Lard God Almighty 1" Oi put tin dollars in the plate.' " Took In the Sign. A characteristic 6tory is told of Abe Gruber, the well known -New York lawyer. When he wa3 a boy looking for something to do, he saw the sign "Boy Wanted" hanging Of the face of a healthful woman with the face of one who is sick proves that quite often a sad face is a sick face. Many a woman has credit for a sunny disposition who would soon be sad of face and irritable of temper if she had to endure the womanly ills which many of her sex have borne for years. . . Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription enres the diseases which are the source of so much pain and suffering to women. It establishes regularity, dries debilitat ing drains, heals inflammation and ul ceration and cures female weakness. Mrs. Cornelia Hfnson. of Coatton, Boyd Co., v., writes : In October iSSq I ire birth to a baby and the treatment I received at the hands of the mid wile left me with failing of the uterus. I had no health to speak of for three years. I had another baby which was the third child. My health began to fail and I found mvself com pletely worn out. I had so many Sains and aches my life was a burden to me and also to all the family, for I was nervous and cross and I could not sleep. Had four doctors come to see me but at last found I was slowly dying. The doctors said I had liver, lung and uterine trouble. I was in bed for months and when I did get uo I was a sight to behold. I looked like a corpse walking about I commenced to take Doctor Pierce's Favorite Prescription, 'Golden Medical Discovery' and 'Pellets,' and ever since then I have been a well woman. I have suffered all a woman could suffer at mv monthly period until since I begau the use of br. Pierce's medicines, but now I can say I have no pain. The dark circles around my eyes are going away and I feel better in every way. My cheeks are red and my skin is white, but before it was as yellow as sanron. Accept no substitute for " Favorite Pre Bcription" there is nothing just as good tor weak and sick women. Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets are easy and pleasant to take. A most effective laxative.
