Not a game was played in either Durham or Raleigh Thursday after noon on account of rain. The first game here was appointed for 3 p. m. , and the second immediately afterward. Umpire Pat Dolan is now on the Durham team as one of the players. It is thought that the team will be greatly strengthened within the next few days, and that Durham will by far have the strongest team she has ever had. ' . Called Same Day. We are told that the republicans of Durham county have called their county convention to meet on Satur day, the 2d day in August the same day the democratic county convention is to be held. .This strikes us as being . a little singular in view of the fact that it is well known that Republicans are doing all in their power to work on Democrats who are outspoken in their opposition to probable Demo cratic nominees, and thus encourage tneir dissatisfaction. There is a wood chuck in the wood-pile as sure as you are born. If any one knows it to.be a fact that the Republicans are dickering witn a ueinoorat, ana it is their purpose to nominate some Democrat, or endorse some Democrat, who is successful in the primarv. he will lease uotifv this office at once. ome such whisperings are in the wind. From what we can under stand the Republicans in this county are seeking to play a very bold and desperate political game. A little later we will see what we will see. Quarterly Meeting. Rev. Dr. W.
