When they behold, on the. one hand, the great multiplying thousands of our churches at .home, the rapid increase of numbers, of wealth and cf talent fin our denomination, and the throng of young- men who are pressing on, through various stages' of. study, to the ministry; and when they survey, on the other, the vast regions where the unbroken darkness yet dwells, and see the innu- merapie millions 01 tneir. ienow-men, wno are still plunged in the manifold miseries of idolatry and wlib are hastening, c very-hour to the judge ment scat, without a knowledge of the Saviour's liarne, their hearts are stirred within them. Thejr' feel that more must be done; and that our church es cannot, without awful guilt, remain satisfied with their present amount of exertion, for the con version bf the world. ; ! The ITurman mission must be strengthened. The Board acknowledge, with gratitude to God, that He has smiled on this mission, with special favor. They believe, that in no other great hear then nation are there so many, and so delightful tokens of the near approach of the Saviour's trij umpliant reign. ; They rejoice that the labourers there, and on their way thither,; now amount to thirty ; besides several native assistants. But the Board disire to establish new stations. They hear the importunate entreaties of our missiona-i lies for aid. They see a wide-spread movement! among the peoglebf Burroah a growing anxie ty an increasing inquiry a wonderful preparr a'tion of the harvest for the sickle and they ear--nestly long to be able to station missionaries irk all the large towns and villages ; to scatter tracts and Bibles every where ; to multiply churches over the land : and to press forward, like an army with banners, to take possession of the whole em- - pire, as-a province of the Saviours kingdom. -The Board feel, that the American Baptists are responsible to. God, to the Christian world, and to posterity, for the Burman empire. The work of converting it to Christ must be carried on1, with increased energy, faith and prayer. It must not linger and languish. .vVe are able to da whatever it belongs to man to accomplish, irk vs They are ready- to send all, who may, of- , fer themselves, with proper qualifications.
