SATURDAY, JANUARY 21 • NUTRITIONAL MANAGEMENT OF HIV/AIDS, a workshop sponsored by the AIDS Service Agency of Wake County, will be held today from 10 am. until 3:30 p.m. at the Wake County Department of Health (comer of Sunnybrook and New Bern) in Raleigh. The morning session (10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.) will focus on early HIV infection and nutrition, and the afternoon session (1:30-3:30 p.m.) will focus on later HIV infection/AlDS and nutrition. The workshop is free to anyone with HIV/AIDS, $10 for others. Resumes and photos are Annual MLK Celebration The Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will be held on Sunday, Januaiy 15 at the 7:15 p.m. service at St. John’s MCC, 805 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. The featured speaker will be the Rev. Irene Travis of the Cathedral of Hope MCC in Dallas, Texas. Rev. Travis will also speak at the 11 a.m. service the dame day. The annual celebration also includes a Diversity Dinner at 7 p.m. on January 14, also at St. John’s. Meat and beverages are provided by the church, but participants are asked to bring a covered dish to supplement the meal. Dishes should reflect the ethnic origin of the participants, and ethic attire is also encouraged. Rev. Travis is a licensed clergywoman who joined the Cathedral of Hope staff in October, 1993 and serves as the coordinator of Small Group Ministries. She is a graduate of Kean College with a Master in Education. Before joining Cathedral of Hope, Rev. Travis was a member of MCC of Christ the Liberator in New Brunswick, NJ for nine years, where she served as a deacon, board member and student clergywoman. Rev. Travis lives in Dallas with her partner, Pamela. They will be joined in a Holy Union on January 21 at Cathedral of Hope. The King Celebration events are open to all.
