By Wanzallen Landreth, Sixth Grade There are many ways in which 1 can be a good American during these days that our nation is at war. I am trying every day to be a good American. Our govern ment needs us all now in every \way that we can help. (.One way that I can be a good American is by doing what our president says, not to listen to propaganda about our nation and leaders. Another way is by saving ev erything, even payer. The gov ernment has many uses for paper and boxes. I can be a good American by s buying Saving stamps arid bonds and by giving to the Red Cross. Each donation, though small, will help. X can be a good American by being a loyal citizen, neighbor, and classmate; by helping keep my community clean, preventing accidents and obeying the laws. Another way that I can be a good American is to learn about my government and my nation. I must educate myself by learning * to read, write, and speak well. Eor in a short space of time I will be a voter of my country. Statement of Financial Affairs of the RQNS-STURDIVANT MUTUAL BURIAL ASSOCIATION, INC. NORTH WILKESBORO, NORTH CAROLINA FOR YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31t»,1941 _ If You Have Not Already Paid Your January Assessment, Do So Now! IMPORTANT! We are asked the question from time to time relative to whether you should keep the insurance paid for those of our boys who are in the army—and the answer is always YES! A number of things could happen that would deprive them of obtaining insurance after serving their time in the army, and too, there is always some ex pense if something does happen, which will not be reimbursed by the Government. Your son’s insurance with us is worth $100.00 regardless of what the Government does about it if he is killed. The question is often asked again: “Can you get our boy for us if he is killed in service?” We trust that none of you will need us, but we CAN and WILL go any place within reason that you want us to go, and we can collect from the Government the same as any other person who takes care of our boys from our community. Your problems are ours, and if for any reason your son in the army should want to get in touch with you, and you are not close by a telephone, just have him call or wire us and if the road is not open to your house, we will open it. I assure you of my personal appreciation for your cooperation and friendship through every day that is past and I trust that regard less of the clouds that now hang over us that the sun will come through and 1942 will be the brighest year for you and yours. Yours to serve you and to help you, W. K. Sturdivant Secretary-Treasurer. Your January Assessment Is Now Due. Be Sure To Make Payment Before Grace Period Expires.
