Wagoner Celebrate Golden Wedding Last Sunday, October 10, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Wagoner celebra ted their golden wedding anni versary at their home on Route 2, Mouth of Wilson, Va. All of their nine children were present except Mrs. Hayden Goodman, of West Jefferson, who was unable to attend. The children brought lunch along, and at noon, » dinner was served picnic style from a table arranged on the lawn. HOLDS AN INTERESTING MEETING The Baptist Woman’s Mission ary Society met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. A. O'. Joines, with the theme, “The Written Bible.” The program chairman, Mrs. W. O. Hooper, discussed “The Missionary Word”, Mrs. Ben G. Reeves, “The Bible Transla tions”, Mrs. T. R. Burgiss, “Bible Distribution”, Mrs. R. L. Hicker son, “Witnesses Use of the Word”, Mrs. C. A. Reeves, ‘To day’s Demand for the Bible." The scripture was read by Mrs. A. O. Joines; in the absence of the president, Mrs. Burgiss pre sided, ami Mrs. Hickerson read the secretary’s minutes. At the business session, the Wilkes boro District meeting was announced to be held at Lenoir, on September 28th. After a report from the place committee, the group accepted the invitation from Morganton for next year. The attendance prize, war stamps, was won by the Conover club with the Statesville Junior Service League, coming second. During the meeting, expres sions of regret over not being able to attend, from Mrs. Micou Browne, chairman of Juniors; Mrs. Charles Cowles, past dis trict president; Mrs. Clarence Beasley, past chairman of dis tricts, and others, were read. Music for both the program and the luncheon was under the direction of Miss Lorene Perkins, of the West Jefferson high school, who used two separate groups of students in patriotic numbers that were well received. ! The demonstration which was led by Miss Frances Capel, new home agent, was on canning meat. Other meat recipes were also dis cussed. Miss Anna Rowe was also a guest of the club, giving some useful and helpful suggestions. She urged that everyone try to increase their attendance at the club meeting. Mrs. Elizabeth East erling gave a splendid talk on '“Education” and Mrs. Truitt gave a talk on “War Work.” Delicious refreshments were served to 14 members and one visitor, Mrs. H. C. Evans.
