Mr. and Mrs. Worth Smith, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McCann and Floyd Billings are visiting relatives in Maryland and Pennsylvania this Sgt. and Mrs. Garnett W. Woot en; of Kansas, Were dinner guests of Mrs. Ruth J. Choate, Wednes day evening. They spent some time here visiting Dr. and Mrs. B. O. Choate and other friends and relatives and Mrs. J. H. Wag oner in Ashe county. Page Higgins left Saturday for Salisbury where he will take up his civilian position in the Mont gomery Ward company, there. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hoppers had as their guests, Sunday, Mrs. Hazel H. Taylor, Mrs. Frank Po teat and sons, Edward and Bill, of Morganton. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Gentry, Mrs. Mabel Watson and Mrs. E. L. Spurlin were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Phipps, Mrs. Ross Price, Mrs. Robert Simmons and Mr. DeGrotte, of Reidsville, visited Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Joines, Sunday. “Aunt” Kate Taylor is slowly improving from a severe illness. Mrs. Clara Caudell underwent a toncilectomy at the office of a local physician here, last Wed nesday. Mrs. R. M. Fletcher, of Boon I ville, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Cheek and Mrs. Arthur Matthews. Sgt. Carey Mabe, of Harding, Montana and Miss Eva Mabe vis ited relatives here and at Strat ford recently. Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Hoppers, who were residents of Sparta, for sometime, are now living at 530 Stratford Place, Raleigh II Courts, Roanoke, Va. Miss Georgia Andrews, of Charlotte, is spending this week in Sparta. Mr. and Mrs. David Higgins re cently .spent the day in Roanoke, Va. J. D. Higgins, Jr., was recent ly carried to Randolph hospital in Ashboro, for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Duke Bledsoe and Mr. and Mrs. David Higgins spent last Friday in Winston-Salem, shopping. Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Fender, of Birmingham, Mich., left Friday for Coatesville, Pa., after spend ing sometime here with relatives and friends. They will visit their son, Garnett Fendbr and Mrs. Fender and other relatives in Pennsylvania. Mrs. A. R. Vail, of Jefferson, visited relatives here, Monday. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Reid Hampton last week were: Mrs. Eugene Phipps and son, Eugene, Jr., of Mouth of Wilson; Mrs. M. S. Jcmes, Wilmington, Del.; Mrs. W. C. Phipps, Winston-Salem; Miss Elizabeth Cox and Miss Alease Choate, of Baywood, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin M. Cau dill, of Dallastown, Pa., spent the past week visiting at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Edwards, Whitehead; Eld. and Mrs. S. G. Caudill and Mrs. Hiram Edwards, Sparta. Mr. Caudill is a brother of Eld. Caudill and the two Mrs. Edwards. While here, he pur chased from J. R. She also won her way to the district elimina tion contest in Statesville, finishing second. Miss Douglas has been in 4-H club work for three years. Black, of Piney Creek. F. Riggs, officiating, us ing the ring ceremony. The couple were attended by North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. and Mrs. B. O. Choate, Mrs. Tom Noland and daughter, Sarah Jane, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Choate expect to leave Sunday for a month’s vacation in Florida. They expect to return around the first of December. Miss Jackie Tompkins is a freshman at the University of Tennessee, Knox ville. Ernest Edwards spent the week end in Washington, D. C. He was accompanied home by Miss Geor gia Bryan, who has been employ ed there for the past several months, and Mrs. Amon Ed wards. Miss Bryan will spend sometime at her home here, after resigning from her position ir Washington. Mrs. George Ezell and daughter Becky, and Mrs. Rudd Wellborn of Independence, Va., were visi tors in town Monday afternoon. Cpl. and Mrs. Basil Rector, wh< served as best man and matroi ^ of honor. The bride chose for her nuptials a wool dress of peacock blue with black accessories. Mrs. Andrews is a graduate oi Sparta high school with the class of ’43 and for sometime has beer employed at the hosiery mill a1 Independence, Va. Mr. Andrews, who was recently discharged from military service, is a graduate of Glade Valley high school with the class of ’37, He has been in service for the past three years, 17 months of which he spent as a prisoner of war of the Germans.
