C., were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Ketchel Duncan have moved to the Crocket Lucas home on East Main Street. Mrs. Jane Joines recently re turned to the Hugh Chatham Me morial hospital for medical treat ment. J. P. Absher was confined to his room with “flu” a few days last week. ■ Mrs. M. H. Honaker is a patient in the Baptist hospital, Winston Salem, where she is receiving treatment. Mrs. C. G. Lucas is a patient in the Baptist hospital, Winston-Sa lem. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cox, of De troit, Mich., are visiting relatives in the county. Mrs. Harry Vaughn has return ed to her home in Dayton, Ohip, after spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. E. L. McMillan, Sr. Mrs. L. B. Jarvis is visiting her, daughter, Miss Kathleen Jarvis in High Point. Little Miss Ann Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Thompson, underwent an opera tion for appendicitis in the Wilkes hospital, Sunday. She is report ed to be getting along nicely. Sam Brown went to High Point, Sunday, for his family. Mr. and Mrs. Brown plan to make their home here. Captain James Choate, of Salisbury, was a visitor here, on Monday. Mrs. John F. They plan to spend the summer at their re spective homes. Mr. and Mrs. David Higgins and John A. Higgins attended the funeral of Elmond Higgins at Ga lax, ya., Sunday. Miss Betty Cox, of Bridle Creek, Va., was the week end guest of Miss Emoryetta Reeves. Pete Moxley, of Bel Air, Md., spent the week end with rela tives here. Mr. and Mrs. David Higgins had as their guests last week end S. C. Higgins, Jr., of Galax, Va., and Miss Pauline Kirby, of Winston Salem. Mrs. Ada Smith, of Independ ence, Va., was a visitor here Sat urday. Miss Sarah Warren, member of the faculty of Leon high school, Tallahassee, Fla., is spending this week with her mother, Mrs. Dal ton Warren. Mr. and Mis. Jphn F. Carr, Jr., of Summerville, Pa., were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Judy Womble. Kemp Duncan has returned from an extended visit in Flor ida. Miss Patsy Roy Burgiss, stu dent at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Burgiss. r Wives Organize Post Of Legion Auxiliary, Sat. Mrs. Ernest Edwards Is Elect ed President; Want More Members Plans gre now underway for the organization of a post of the American Legion Auxiliary in Al leghany county to work in co ordination with the Dean Parish Post 98 here, it was announced this week. , Partial organization was ac complished Saturday night at the community building when officers were elected by a group of wives at the Legion meeting. Mrs. Ernest Edwards, wife of the adjutant of Post 98, was elect ed president; Mrs. Gene Irwin, vice-president; Mrs. Hugh B. Per ry, secretary and treasurer and Mrs. Ed J. Pugh, recorder. Mrs. Edwards pointed out that information on the organization of the post was being secured from state headquarters and that as soon as it was received, plans would proceed. A minimum of twenty members is required for organization, it was explained and all wives of Legionnaires are urg ed to join the auxiliary. Details of the plans will be announced at a later date, Mrs. Edwards ex plained. Mrs. Pierce, 54, Succumbs In Ya. Funeral services for Mrs. R. F Pierce, 54, of Welch, W. Va., who died at her home Friday, was held Tuesday at 2 o’clock at the Fox Creek Baptist church. In terment was in the church ceme tery. Mrs. Pierce had been in ill health for sometime but her death on Friday was quite sud den. A special funeral service was held on Monday in Welch and then the body was brought to Fox Creek Monday. Five brothers and four sisters survive and her mother, Mrs. Alex Hash, of Fox, Va.
