WMU Hears Mrs.
Lillian Bott
A real treat was enjoyed by
members of Circle No. 1 of the
Baptist W. M. U. on Thursday
afternoon, when Mrs. Lillian Bott
spoke on “How Christmas is
Celebrated in Other Countries.”
She gave a most interesting de
scription of her personal experi
ences at Christmas time in a Lon
don boarding house, a castle in
Scotland, in Berlin and with the
Army of Occupation in Coblenz.
Mrs. Bott spent four years in
Europe, before the first world
war as a student and singer, and
/was with the Y. M. C. A. dur
ing the first war. She was with
the army of occupation in Cob
lenz in 1923 when our soldiers
entertained 10,000 German chil
dren. Her description of the four
holidays was a vivid study in
contrasts.
Mrs. C. A. Reeves read the
Christmas story from Luke and
following this a short business
session was held. Delicious re
freshments were served by the
hostesses, Mrs. Bott and Mrs.
Reeves.

Vows Are Spoken In Double
Bing Ceremony At Sparta
Baptist Church
In b wedding of beauty and
simplicity, Miss Madge Wyatt,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn
Wyatt, became the bride of Wade
Irwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Irwin, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rev. F. G. Walker, pastor of
the Sparta Baptist church, per
formed the double ring cere
mony at the church at 5:30
o’clock in the presence of a large
gathering of friends and relatives.
Preceding the ceremony, Miss
Helen Walker rendered a pro
gram of nuptial music and Mrs.
Gene Irwin, sister-in-law of the
bridegroom, sang “I Love You
Truly.” Miss Walker was attir
ed in a model of brown with
which she wore brown acces
sories. Her flowers were talis
man roses. Mrs. Irwin wore a
sleeveless dress of black and a
corsage of red roses.
Usher-groomsmen, R. D. Gen
try, Jr., and James Hardin light
ed the candles. Mrs. Cecil Mur
ray, sister of the bridegroom, was
the bride’s only attendant and
was attired in a street dress of
black, with which she wore black
accessories. A corsage of red
roses completed her outfit.
The bride entered with her
father, by whom she was given
in marriage. They were met at
the altar by the bridegroom and
his best man, Cecil Murray. An
improvised altar, with a back
ground of pines, and two seven
branched candelabra, formed the
setting for the impressive cere
mony. Tall baskets of white
gladioli and white asters stood on
either side of the altar.
The lovely bride wore a street
dress of white wool, trimmed in
gold sequins. Her accessories
were brown and she wore a
shoulder corsage of white rose
buds.
Immediately following the cere
mony, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Irwin
entertained at a reception at
their home honoring the bridal
couple and members of the wed
ding party. Mrs. Glenn Wyatt,
mother of the bride, attired in
black, with a shoulder corsage of
red roses, and Mrs. Carl Irwin,
mother of the bridegroom, attir
ed- in brown, with a shoulder
corsage of talisman roses, assist
ed Mrs. Gene Irwin in entertain
ing.
The bride is a member of the
senior class of the Sparta high
school and will continue her
studies there. The bridegroom is
on active duty with the U. S.
Navy and is stationed in Norfolk.
