Leech Shaver, and son, George, of Falston, Md., visited bet aunt, Mrs. Mat Estep, last meek. They also spent a few days with Mrs. Shaver’s father, T. A. Mosley, at Sparta. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Estep, and small son, Robert Lundy, of Win ston-Salem, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lundy Estep, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rector, last Sun day. Mrs. David Osborne, who has been a patient at Ashe Memorial baqpital, is spending sometime with her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Mine*. Johnsie Cox visited Lorrine Kathleen Atwood, last Sun ' Hylda Osborne spent last Sat urday mght with Christine Mabe. Mis. Rufus Giliam, and chil dren, Of Ronda, recently visited her mother, Mrs. Maty Crouse. Mrs. R. M. Joines had as her (nest, last Sunday; Mr. John Joines, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Choate, mid family, of Whitehead; Mr. and Mis. Elmer Joines, and fam ity; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Joines, and son, Ernest, of Sparta. Mr. and Mrs. Coy Adams, and bdy, moved to Furches last week. Grady Irwin, of Richmond, Va., | spent the past week end with his i grandparents, Elder and Mrs. J. jv£. Williams, and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Richardson had as their dinner guests, last Sunday: Mrs. J. F. Atwood, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Mabe, and fam ily; Daynard and Jerol Atwood. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Edwards, of Hooker, were recent guests of Mae and Kelly Williams. Mr. Wiley E. Joines, who has been seriously ill is improving. Among those who recently visit ed him were: Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Truitt, and daughters, Marjorie and Annie Mae; Mrs. Leonis Ir win; Mrs. Philo Caudill, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Caudill, Mrs. En nice Spurling, also, Mrs. Bower Watson and baby, of Sparta. Elder Edd Douglas and Elder Summer, of Galax, Va., preached a splendid sermon at Antioch church, last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Edd Williams had as their guests last Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Williams, and -family; also, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Williams, ant family. Mrs. Wil liams remains in ill health. Mrs. Charlie Mitchell is recup erating from a recent illness. Carol Sue Irwin, of Furches, spent the past week end with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Taylor. Millard Crouse, of the U. S. Army, is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Crouse. Millard is sta tioned in Florida and has re enlisted in the service. Alton Crouse is also visiting his par ents, here. A group of young people en joyed a weiner roast at Stratford, Saturday night, after which games were played and a good time was had by all present. Junior Williams and Leff Jones were the sponsors. ■ Elders Kilby and Cook, of West Virginia, delivered interesting sermons at Antioch, Thursday. This Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, will be the regular meeting time. Everyone is in vited to attend. v Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Fender and W. G. Richardson, visited their brother, Press Richardson, at Sugar Grove recently. Mr. Richardsoh has been quite ill, but was somewhat improved. Clint Caudill, of the Wolf Branch community, had his soil sampled last week in order to take the guessing out of his fer tilization program. Jay Johnson, of the Hooker community, planted five thousand! white pines on some steep erod ed land last week. Mr. Johnson is planning to use his most de sirable land for cultivation and pasture, and let pines care for the remainder. David Osborne, of Cherry Lane, was assisted by the New River Soil Conservation District in laying off some lines for tile drainage. Hie drainage, Mr. Os borne plans, will increase the value of his land many times. Miss Jean Hawthorne, of the Twin Oaks community, seeded about two and one half acres to ladino clover and orchard grass to be used for meadow and pas ture. J. K. Andrews, cooperator of the New River Soil Conservation District, is using tile drainage to add to the many improvements he has already made on his farm at Chestnut Grove. Peden News Rev. XL W. Thompson will preach at Rocky Ridge church on April 27, at 3 o’clock. Pvt. Joe W. Perry spent the week end with his family and returned to Fort Bragg on Sun day night. D. W. Perry, of Greensboro, spent the week end with his fam ily. Mrs. J. F. Allen has been ill with the flu at her home. Mr. and Mrs. David Van Dyke and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Williams and family visited Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Perry, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Perry and son are home after spending sev eral months in Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kennedy, of Piney Creek, visited relatives in the community on Sunday.
