Mrs. Lillian Bott has returned .after visiting relatives in Char lotte. Mr. and Mrs. Aimer Davis, of Rome, Georgia, were business visitors here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Moxley have moved here. Mrs. E. B. Eldridge, of Glade Valley is ill. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Stone, and son, of South Carolina are visit ing her mother, Mrs. Carl Dun can. Mrs. Myrtle Joines spent the week end at Wilkesboro with, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Irwin. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Reeves. Floyd, Virginia, spent the week end with Mrs. Alex Reeves. Miss Blanche Finney, Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, spent Sat urday in town. Mr. Charlie F. Crouse of Sparta, and son, S. Sgt. James M. Crouse of the U. S. Army have return ed after visiting relatives in Day ton, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland. They were accompan ied to Dayton, by Alton Crouse and home by Miss Ruby Crouse, of Berwyn, Md., who. will spend a few days here. Those visiting Mr. and Mrs. Kilby Reeves, Sunday were; Mrs. Jtum Adams, Mrs. Clay Duncan, and son, Mr. and Mrs. John Ad ams and sons, Jimmy and Cebert; Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Poe,, and daughter, Oritha, all of Galax, Virginia; also, Mr. and Mrs. Hom er Reeves, and children, of Spar ta. Miss Jean Hawthorne was a re cent visitor here. Miss Jennie Hudson remains quite ill. Recent visitors were; Mr. and Mrs. Leff Edwards, Mrs. Martin Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Leff Duncan, and Mrs. Mac Van Hoy, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Sheets and Mr. Oscar Evans spent Saturday in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. Doughton Perry ! visited relatives at Blowing Rock, Sunday. Mrs. Ruth Blevins, of Wash ington, D. C., spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam McKnight, of Glade Valley, N. C .. Mrs. Ruth Choate spent the week end with Mr. J. H. Wag-’ oner. Others visiting Mr. Wag oner were: Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hege and Miss Doris Hege, of Winston-Salem, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. John Pruitt, of Pleasant Grove, had as their din ner guests, last Sunday: Elzie Pruitt, Iva Grace Anderson, Car lyle Anderson and Betty Sue Sink, all of Winston-Salem; and Mr. and Mrs. J. Club Week Mrs. Isom Wagoner, home dem onstration agent, announced this week that women of the home demonstration clubs of Alleghany county, would join in the nation in celebrating National Home Demonstration Week which opens May 4 and continues through May 11. In a statement issued by Clin ton P. Anderson, secretary of ag riculture, Mr. Anderson urged that all women of the nation join in pledging anew the ideal of home and family as the cor nerstone of freedom and the democratic way of life. Maple Shade News Rev. W. H. Yokeley filled his regular appointment here, Sun day, and delivered a very inter esting sermon. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Parsons had as their recent guest, Mrs. H. L. Shaver and children, of Winston Salem. Mrs. C. E. Cox spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Jim Delp, who is a patient at Wytheville hospital. Mr. and Mrs. V. M. This is the news from New York's famous designers of bridal dresses, who have a way of know ing that most brides-to-be feel they look most beautiful in traditional, gleaming satin. Pictured today is an example of the heirloom type of dress pre ferred. It has this season's yards and yards of fabric, extended into a newly-wide train. _ Sleeves are quaintly puffed at the top and slim therefrom to the wrist. Narrow lace ruffling edges the heart-shaped neckline, filled in with marquisette, and is continued down the front of the basque bodice. Something new for the bride who wears Junior sizes is the wedding dress designed for her own particu lar measurements. A number of New York collections feature such dresses for the first time this sea son. Among the most appealing and newest is an ankle-length dress of white faille with an accordion pleated overskirt of white organdy. Bridesmaids’ dresses to go along are made of white faille with wide oval necklines, little puffed sleeves and colored organdy sashes. CHURCH GROUNDS IN NEED OF UPKEEP -Members of the Antioch Prim itive ' Baptist church and those who have relatives buried in the cemetery there, who are interest-’ ed in the upkeep of the ceme tery are asked to attend the meeting to be held at the church on May 1 gnd May 15. An effort is being made to raise funds to enable the members to purchase a power lawnmower to be used for the upkeep of the church grounds. All contribu tions will be apprepriated, it was pointed out. Contributions may be mailed to C. E. Edwards, Route 3, Sparta, it was pointed out. and Mrs. Jack Naylor, of Roar ing Gap. To Have Movies A motion picture will be shown -each Wednesday night at 7:30 p. m. at the Piney Cresk high school, it was announced this week. An admission will be charged, the proceeds of which will be used for the benifit of the school. The schedule for the next two weeks has been announced as follows: Wednesday, May 7, “Fu gitives of the Plain;” Wednesday, May 14, “Swiss Family.” The public is cordially invited to take advantage of these pictures. HIGH SCHOOL TO RECEIVE ANNUALS Students of Sparta high school are expected to receive their copies of the annual, Echoes of Sparta High School, next week. Miss Helen Walker, student ed itor stated. The annuals had originally been expected by April 1, but due to delay in publication, they will not be available until next week, it was learned. Carolina WMS Will Meet Monday, May 5 The regular business meeting of the WMS of the Sparta Bap tist church will be held Monday night, May 5, at 7:30 o’clock, it was announced this week. Th* program will be presented by members of the Lucille Ford Circle. Mrs. Clennel Richardson will be in charge of the program. Miss McLean, G. L. Smith Wed Mrs. W. M. McLean of Fay ettville announces the marriage of her daughter, Alyce to Glen LaVern Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Smith, of Cherry Lane. The vows were spoken at one o’clock Saturday, March 29th. in Winston-Salem, with Rev. M. E. Manuel officiating using the single ring ceremony. For her nuptials, the bride chose a dressmaker suit of bridal blue wool, with black accessories. Miss Louise Brooks, of Glade Valley, was maid of honor and wore a suit of blue wool and black accessories. J. D. Smith, cousin of the groom, served as best man. The bride attended school in Fayetteville and for the past two years has held a position at Fort Bragg. The bridegroom is a graduate of Mountain Park high school and served three years in the U. S. Marines, two of which were spent overseas. After a brief honey moon, they are making their home at Cherry Lane. H. D. Schedule Is Announced The following schedule for the H. D. Clubs of the county has been announced for next week by Mrs. Isom Wagoner, home agent: Whitehead H. D. will meet, May 6, at 2:00 p. m. with Mrs. Lee Joines. Rich Hill 4-H will meet May 7, at 9:00 o’clock a. m. at Rich Hill School. Little Pine 4-H will meet at 10:00 o’clock a. m. on May 7, at Little Pine School. Cherry Lane H. D. will meet May 7th, at 2:00 o’clock with Mrs. Paul Myers. Turkey Knob H. D. will meet, May 9th, at 2:00 o’clock, with Mrs. Annie Osborne. Thirteen Caswell county 4-H tlub boys have secured their baby chicks for their poultry projects this year. Little River To Be Closed May 1 Little River will be closed frost the pond at Sparta to the Vir ginia line from May 1 through June 30 for a spawning area CL T. Bryan, district protector, an nounced this week. All fishermen are asked to make note of this fishing regu lation and cooperate in observ ing it, Mr. Bryan stated.
