Sparta High School Has Forty - Six Who Are To Be Awarded Diplomas 27 Girls, 19 Boys Are Graduating Thursday, May 22 Class Is Unusually Large; Members Have Distinguish ed Themselves MAKING PLANS Yorty-six Sparta high school seniors will receive their diplo mas Thursday night, May 22, St the Sparta Baptist chtirch at the commencement exercises. This postwar class of 27 girls and 19 boys is . unusual in many ways and many of them have al ready shown special talents in many fields. Not only have many of them made outstanding records scholastically but have taken a leading part in athletics as well as other school activities. Brief sketches of these graduates are presented here: JANE BLEDSOE Jane, seventeen-year old daughter of Mr. D. C. Bledsoe, •was born May 17, 1930. She is a member of the Journalism, and Monogram clubs, basketball and softball teams. She is the art editor of the annual staff and captain of the cheerleaders in her senior year. Voted the best sport. She likes sports and art and hopes to become a stenog rapher. Mdtto: “Tie success to your dress tail and run.” MARGARET LOUISE BROOKS Margaret, nineteen-year old /daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Brooks, was born April 3, 1928. -She is a member of the Dramatics and Hillbilly clubs. She likes the movies, fishing and reading. She wants to visit every state«some day. Motto: “Never give up.” HOWARD W. CARPENTER 'Howard, twexfty-iour year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Brady Car penter, was born May 26, 1923. He was a member of the United States Navy for 3 years, member of Journalism and Hillbilly clubs. He likes to sing and date and is Sometimes known as “Romeo.” Wants to be an engineer. Motto: “Live and let live.” CAERY CLEVE CAUDILL Caery, seventeen-years old, was hopes to be a truck driver. Mot to: “Live and learn.” JIMMY DAVIS Jimmy, seventeen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James S. Davis, Practical Gifts We have a wide choice for all ago and degrees — to be mailed by themselves or to accompany gifts. was bora August 14,. 1939. He is a member of the Monogram and Journalism Clubs, football, basketball, baseball teams. He likes to fish and hopes to become a football coach at West Point. He was voted the best athlete. Motto: “Keep on kicking.” BETTY DORIS ANDREWS Doris, eighteen-year old daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude An drews, was born November 22, 1928. She is a member of the Music Appreciation club and Library club. Her hobbies are sewing and sleeping. Her ambi tion is to become a nurse. Motto: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” MARY UPTON ANDREWS Uptie, seventeen-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Andrews, was born January 11, 1930. She is a member of the Monogram, Journalism and French clubs, served as captain of the basketball team this year, was secretary- treasurer of her junior and senior classes, was also a member of the debating team of ’46 and is valedictorian of her class. Voted most likely to suc ceed, best dressed and best all around girl. Hobbies—Basketball and fishing. Hgr ambition is .10 learn more. Motto: “To have a friend, be one.” ANNIE SUE BENNETT Susie Jane, twenty-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mart Bennett, was born July 12, 1927. She is a member of the Journa lism club, Monogram club, and the basketball team. She was voted the girl with the best personality. Hobbies—Collecting souvenirs, bowling and dancing. Her ambition is to be a secretary. Motto: “Character is the shining star of success.” J. M. BENNETT Snoopy, eighteen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mart Bennett, was born December 25, 1928. He is a member of the Journalism and Monogram clubs, football, basketball and baseball teams. He likes to hunt and fish. Hopes to become a football coach. Motto: “Green but growing.” JAMES DOUGLAS James, seventeen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Douglas, was born September 26, 1929. He is a member of the Journa ism, and Monograpi club and football U ?ngineer. Motto: “Nothing is oossihle ” NAOMA RUTH DOUGLAS Ruthie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Douglas, 17 years old, vas born August 31, 1929. She 's a member of the Home Econo iics, 4-H, Dramatics and French ■lubs. She likes to read, sew, and iowl. Hopes to become successful i some field of home economics. Motto: “Character is the corner tone of success.” FLOYD CHAP EDWARDS Floyd, born eighteen-years ago on July 8, 1929, is son of Mr. and I Mrs. A. C. Edwards. He is a: member of the FFA club and 'ootball team. He likes to fish and hunt. Hopes to be an electrical engineer. Motto: “Live and learn.” REBA DELIA EDWARDS R e b a, seventeen-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Edwards, was born August 28. 1929. She is a member of the Dramatic and French, 4-H, and Home Economics clubs. She likes to read, sew, dance and listen to radio programs and hopes to be come a private secretary. Motto: “God first, others second and self last” KENNETH EDWARD FENDER “Casanova,” eighteen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Fender, was born January 2, 1929. Likes to hunt and make string music. Hopes to become a millionaire. He was voted the1 best dressed boy of the senior class. Motto: “Life is what you make it." LEWIS FRANKLIN FENDER Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lundy Fender, is a member of the Journalism, FFA, and Dramatics clubs. He likes to read, fish, eat sleep, and torment all in audible distance of a piano. He hopes to find some domesticated animal and get married. Class prophet and was voted wittiest boy. Mot to: “Do unto others before they have a chance to do unto you.” DAISY ENNICE MAINE S “Popcorn,” is the nineteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Maines, and was born Jan-! uary 31, 1928. She is a member of Music Appreciation and Li brary clubs. Her hobby is keeping a scrap book of movie'stars and a diary: Hopes to become a Red Cross nurse and see the world. She is a member of Home Economics, Dramatics, and French clubs. Her hobbies are listening to radio and sewing. Her ambition is to take a trip across the Pacific. Mitchell, was born June 25, 1930. He is a member of the FFA club and likes swimming, hunting and fishing. Motto: “Try to suceed.” WILLARD RAY MOXLET Ray, nineteen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Moxley, was born November 25, 1927. He is a member of Monogram, Library clubs and the basketball and football teams. He likes to fish and read. Ambition is to become a coach. Motto: “Strive, seek, and gain.” NELLIE CLYDE MURPHY Nellie, seventeen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Murphy, was born December 10, 1929. She is a member of Music Appreciation and Library clubs and the softball team. Her hob bies are collecting photographs and fishing. Ambition—To be come a surgical nurse. Motto: “To have a friend, be one.” DOROTHY SUE McGRADY “Susie,” the seventeen year old daughter of Mrs. Bessie Mc Grady, was born February 19, 1930. She is a member of French dub II, Dramatics club and Jour nalism club. Hobbies—Reading, claying piano, and library work. Ambition is to be a nurse. Journalism and French clubs and football team. His hobbies are radio and photography, and hopes, to become a chemical engineer. He is the president of the senior class and was voted most likely to succeed. Motto: “Be prepared.” LEFT VAUGHN ROYAL Leftie, twenty-two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Royal, was born April 19, 1925. He serv ed in the United States Army for 2% years.
