E. Hoppers, his father, celebrated their birthdays. The bride is a graduate of Sparta high school and was graduated last year from Mars Hill College where she was a member of the Nonpariel Literary Society and the M. H. C. B. C. She is now employed as a steno grapher in R. F. Crouse’s law office. The groom attended both Sparta and Glade Valley high schools. He served two years over seas in the South Pacific and Japan while in the U. S. Army. Since receiving his discharge he has resumed his education at Glade Valley. The couple spent their honey moon touring the state and visit ing Lake Lure hear Asheville. They are making their home at Whitehead. Circle Has Meet Here Mon. Night The Lucille Ford Circle of Sparta Baptist church held its monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Ralph Cheek on Monday night with Mrs. W. K. Sprinkle as joint hostess. Mrs. Sprinkle gave the Bible study and Mrs. H. E. Single tary presented a very interesting program on “The American Negro.” Those taking part in the discussion were Mrs. Clenmel Richardson, Mrs. T. Roy Burgiss, Mrs. Homer Edwards and Mrs. Singletary. Delicious refreshments were served to the nine members pre sent during the social hour. The July meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J. B. Reed, it was announced. Miss Van Hoy Is Honored At Party A birthday party was given in honor of Miss Viola Van Hoy, last Thursday night by Miss Vir ginia Hill. Reeves of Sparta, has arrived for duty in the Panama- Canal Zone and is stationed with Battery “C” of the "harbor defense of Cristobal at Fort Sherman, on the Atlantic side of the Isthmus of Panama. He arrived recently aboard the U. S. Army Transport Blanche F. Sigman, which sailed from New Orleans.
