The son’s prayers continued daily for a bout twelve years. Then com munity - wide evangelistic ser vices were organized in their town, rotating through the dif ferent churches. One evening upon coming into the church late, the son and his wife were surprised and delight ed to see the father seated ahead of them. After the sermon when the minister asked those who wanted prayer to be offered for them to raise their hands, the son ' prayed earnestly, “Knock him to his knees, Lord! Knock his to his knees, please.” Then, to the son’s joy, the father rais ed his hand for prayer. Then I asked the agent If he was ex pecting anything outstanding in the way of extra-high yields. “It’s hard to say—right now—” he answered, “but they’ll have to go some to beat the record.” Then he told me about A. S. Tussey a fine old gentleman who is still actively engaged in farm ing out of Lexington on Route 6. “Thirty years ago,” Agent Brown related, “Mr. Tussey broke up a piece of meadow land on Swearing Creek, used a thous and pounds of sixteen percent acid phosphate on the plot, and added 200 pounds of a complete fertilizer in the tows at plant ing time. His resulting yield, verified and measured by the county agent of the day—W. G. Yeager—was 139 bushels and three pecks of corn on a single acre! That record, Cousin, set in 1916, still stands as tops for Da vidson county, as mar as we are able to determine.” “With a mark like that to shoot at,” I says,' “farmers over here certainly do have plenty of in spiration!’’ , _ .
