When the market opens on Tuesday, it will begin its fourth year of operation, marked by steady progress each year. Mrs. Wagoner stated that approximat ely 75 women are expected to participate in selling on the mar ket this year which is to be op erated two days each week, Tues and Friday. Here dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, eakes, breads, home canned goods, k meat, flowers and many other articles will go on sale to the public, thus giving people an op portunity to buy many farm pro ducts not offered in the usual market channels. And the home demonstration women will like wise have an additional market for their surplus products. At a meeting of the club women last Thursday, the (rule com mittee, composed of Mrs. Arol Choate, Mrs. Henry Edwards, and Mrs. McDale Kennedy, set up the following rules for operating the market: 1. Wreck Is Fatal To Piney Creek Youth, Thursday William Enorier 7, Fatally Injured ^tn Auto Collision William Jfarland Ehopier, 7 year old son of Mr. and Mrs: Grover Knopier, of Piney Creek, met his death as a result of an automobile' collision on the Pin ey Creek road nine miUs from Sparta last Thursday, about 11: 30 a. m. Young Enopier was riding in the back seat of the two-door ’37 Buick sedan, driven by his father when it collided with the ’46 Nash coach, driven by Paige the Piney Creek road. He was thrown against the front seat ‘of the Buick and' as a result suf fered a crushed chest and brok en bones. The impact of the blow^ made the child suffer convul sions and he died from his wounds. Mrs. Enopier suffered bruises and cuts about the face, but neither Mr. Enopier or Mr. Graham were injured. Mrs. Eno pier was taken to the Waddell hospital in Galax for treatment. Funeral service for Farland was held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock at the Piney Creek Methodist church. Officiating was (Continued on Page 41 Big Event Rained Out Last Weekend; Entries Are To Return July 18-19 are the new dates set for Sparta’s annual horse show, originally planned for last week end, but was postponed be cause of continuous rains. There were 100 entries for the show last week and all of them agreed to come back July 18, 19. Tom Greene manager of the show and Roy Ellison, president of the Sparta Lion’s club, spon sor of the show said they talked to all having horses scheduled for the show last week end and that they Dromised to come a gain in July. Many of the horses had ar rived last week end and it was hoped that the show originally scheduled for Friday and Satur day could be moved up until Sat urday and Sunday, but the con tinuous rains made this impos sible. This was the second time these two men of the Stratford section of Alleghany had been tried in conection with the rob bery and shooting of Kelly »iy| his sister Miss Mae William* also of Stratford, on November 10. A mistrial was ordered in this case, when it came before the court in May, due to the fact that the jurors could not agree. There was some delay on Mon day in the selection of the jurors and court was adjourned before noon by Judge J. A. Rousseau, presiding judge, at this special term of court, in order to sum mons a special venire for Tues day. The case went to the jury around 4:40 Wednesday. Final adjournment came this morning at 10:30. Selected to serve on the jury were Frank Murphy, Glenn Rob erts, Garnet Smith, W. C. Bot tomly, Kyle Caudill, Floyd Combs, A. R. Murphy, Bale Todd,. Name Principals For High Schools Some Other Vacancies; Want Certified Teachers Fur All Schools Principals for Alleghany coun ty’s two high schools have been named and the positions have been accepted, Miss Clyde Fields, county school superintendent stated yesterday. R. H. Walker will return to Sparta high school for his second year as principal and C. R. Roe, former Sparta high school principal and owner manager of the Western Auto Store, here, will be the princi pal at Piney Creek. The only vacancies In thn county schools, Miss Fields Sta ted are in the elementary grades at Sparta, New Hope and Laurel Springs. Each school has one va cancy. Stratford, at present, htt the required amount of teachers, however, if a certified teacher should apply, one of the ones now employed will be relieved. Applications are continuing to come in, Miss Fields' pointed out and a number of them has al ready been received. Mrs. Lillie Cox Succumbs In Va. Funeral service for Mrs. Lillie F.
