— News Mrs. Edd Cox entertained the ®<xrte Demonstration Club at her hetne last Tuesday. The use of Sewing machine attachments Was discussed and demonstrated. The afeart meeting will be at the home Of Mrs. W. L. McMillan. Rev. W. N. Handy preached an interesting sermon at the home -of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Atwood, last Sunday. Mr.- - Everette Taylor, of Mt. Airy and Mr. J. K. Taylor and Mrs. Mattie Douglas, of Furches, visited Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Shep herd, last Wednesday. Miss Freddie Atwood is en tering school at Glade Valley, next Monday. The tanners in this section are still haying, due to so much rain Moat of them have cut the sec ind crop. Mr. and Mrs. Junior Atwood and children are spending some time with Mrs. Atwood’s father, Mr. Wynt Baker, of Crumpler. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Warren of Washington, D. C., were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Curren Dixon. News has been received here of the birth of a son, Joe III, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Flietz of Philadelphia, Pa. Mrs. Flietz was the former Miss Helen Shepherd, of this community. Mr. Wilburn Atwood of Fur ches, was the guest of his brother, J. C. Atwood, Friday. Mrs. Kemp Austin of the state of Michigan, was the guest of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Clementine Austin, for the past few days. Mrs. Rex Huffman and small daughter. Mr. Robert Glenn Dixon has returned home from a visit with relatives in Maryland and Wash ington D.. C. Mr. W. F. Shepherd fell from a building Saturday and broke his shoulder, besides other minor bruises. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Kornegay and daughter, Lila, of New Bern, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Shepherd this past week and Mr. and Mrs James A. Smith and sons, Merle and Jerry, and daughter, Shirley were also guests of the Shepherds over the week end. The Smiths were from Cherry Point. This being both families’ first trip in the N. C. mountains, they said the scenery was beauti ful, especially the view from the Scenic Parkway. They said it was the most wonderful view they hadiever seen and the trip would be long remembered, and they hoped t<v repeat it sometime. The Smiths were natives of Texas and the Kornegays were natives of Craven county in this state. The Shepherds met them while they lived at Cherry Point.
