His appointment was announced today by Basil O’Connor, president of the National Foundation for In fantile Paralysis. The 1948 March of Dimes, to be held from Jan. 15-30, will mark the tenth anniver sary of the National Foundation, established by President Franklin D. Mr. McDonald is associate direc tor of the extension division of the University of North Carolina, and has organized educational activity of the university across the state through broadcasts and public for ums. He has organized the Liberal Arts College Movement, and the Commission for the Defense of Democracy Through Education. He is a former member cf the North Carolina House of Representatives. In announcing that Mr. McDonald again had accepted the March of Dimes chairmanship, Mr. O'Connor revealed that since 1943 Infantile paralysis has taken a tragic toll, with more than 72,000 Americans having been stricken. "Thousands,” he warned, "con tinue to face a Ioug fight for recov eiy. This summer, fortunately, we had a 'breathing spell' as polio inci dence nationally did not approach the awful total or 1946. "The cost of the 1946 epidemic alone will run to some $30,000,000, without taking into account the large sums necessary to care for those stricken this summer. We do not know what 1948 may bring, bur we must be prepared.” Pleasant Home. 3rd Sat. and Sun. Prather’s Creek, 2na Sat. & Sun. Roaring Gap, 1st Sat. and Sun. Saddle Mountain, 4th Sat. & Sun.
