Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lyon, of High Point, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hoppers. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Hines have moved to their new home on Highway No. 221, near Strat ford. Wagoner will spend the winter in Catawba with her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Goodman. R. E. Richardson has just re turned from Boston, Mass., where he received further throat treat ment at the Lahey Clinic. Mr. Jessie James, State 4-H leader, is working with Mrs. Isom Wagoner and Mr. John Burch, during this week. Mr. and ^Irs. Dan Marsh, of Charlotte, visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones recently. Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Hen dricks spent several days visit ing in Mayodan and Charlotte. Mr. Dewey Sturdivant spent a few days last week in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stone, of Hone a Path, S. C., and Mrs. J. H. Williams and daughter, of Anderson, S. C., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Wagoner. Mrs. Charlie Edwards and Mrs. Oscar Richardson visited Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Landreth last Mon day afternoon. Misses Doris Collins and Naoma Douglas, A. S- T. C., Boone, spent last week with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Mrs. Bott’s injuries are not serious but she will remain in hospital for a week or more. Mr. Lester Reeves, of Society Hill, S. C., is visiting relatives here. Herald Tribune Forum Is Discussed At Club, Thurs. Mrs. Ed M. Anderson, first vice-president of the N. C. Feder ation of the Woman’s Clubs spoke to the Sparta Woman’s Club last Thursday and chose as her sub ject the New York Herald Tri bune Forum, the theme of which was: “Modern Man; Slave or (Sovereign.’.’ The speaker was introduced by the club’s international relations chairman, Mrs. Amos Wagoner. Reading a selection from Carl Sandburg, “Man Will Yet Win,” which the poet read the opening session of the forum, the speaker discussed breifly the various is sues presented at the forum, which dealth with man’s future including problems of liberty in America, spirtual freedom, free economy and reconstruction in Europe. In outlining the Marshall plan, she told of the earnest and optimistic efforts of European nations seeking help. Mrs. Anderson also gave a br'Pf account of Mrs. J. L. Blair Buck’s recent visit to North Car olina and of her emphasis on in ternational relations and youth conservation. At the close of the program a voluntary offering was taken for the Greek children, for Christmas. T.ris is a state wide project of the North Car olina Federation of Women’s Clubs. I Mrs. Floyd Crouse, president was in charge of the my--ting and a number of business matters were discussed. The plans for the Better English contest for the schools was presented. The sale of Christmas seals was also brought to the attention of the club as was the supper and square dance to be sponsored on November 22. T.ie community building was attractively decorated in fall flowers for the occasion and at the close of the program the host esses, Mrs. C. G. Richardson, Mrs. Wayne Waddell, Mrs. R. H. Wal ker and Mrs. Kern Wagoner serv ed an attractive plate of refresh ments carrying out the autumn motif. The speaker was presented an i attractive gift by the club. guests during the week end, Misses Mary Lou Miles, Juanita Higgins and Mr. Andrew Mc Knight. Miss Anna Mae Miles, of Spar ta, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Miles. Mrs. David Osborne is improv ing after an extended illness. Mr. D. M.
