CAROLINA Mis* Ethel Fowler, of Sparta, was named “Mice AUegaany" and crowned queen of a court of thirteen other girls when the contest was dimattd at a box nipper at the community build' ing, Saturday night. Mias Bobbie Lee Hoppers was second place winner and Miss Ruth Dutton won third place honors. The coronation ended the con test which has been underway for the past two weeks and local girls were sponsored by various business bouses. Following the crowning of the queen, the winner was pre sented a cosmetic kit as a gift ! from the Wesleyan Service Guild. Robert Lee Nichols and Roacoe Collins were in charge of the cake walk, which was held fol lowing the box supper. The contest netted $215.81 and after expenses were taken out, $19&80 was given towards the Sparta Methodist church, which is now under construction. Mem bers of the Guild who sponsored the event stated that they ap preciated the efforts of the busi ness houses and the contestants. Farm Bureau Has Meeting Wed. Members of the Alleghany county Farm Bureal met last night at the community building with George Farthing, field rep resentative of the N. C- Farm Bu reau. Problems of local interest in cluding the improving of rural telephone conditions were discus sed. Also attending the meeting were wives of the bureau mem bers and refreshments were ser ved following the meeting. December 16, Sparta will meet Mount Pleas ant here on the local court at 7:00. Twelve new uniforms have been purchased through the high school athletic fund and the boys will initiate them tomorrow night. The uniforms are black and gold, denoting the school colors.
