The purpose of these meetings, Graeberr said, is to create and promote a greater interest in the protection, management, and use of forest lands and forest resources of Eastern North Carolina. Particular stress will be laid on a program of integrated or balanced utilization of timber resources in a manner that will maintain industries and a balanced economical situation in each community. I The local meeting, is to be held at Wilmington, May 26 and 10 o'clock. Morning and afternoon sessions will be held, with addresses to be deliverred by leaders in forestry work. The Wilmington meeting will be for farmers in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New j Hanover, Onslow, and Pender ! Counties. j The schedule of the program for the meeting to be attended j by farmers from this section is | as follows: Guy A. Cardwell, vice-presij dent of the N. C. Forestry Association, will preside over the meeting to be held in the Cape Fear Hotel at Wilmington. R. W. Graeber, or State College, secretary of the Forestry Association, will explain the purposes of the meeting. The findings of a forestry survey in Eastern North Carolina, and their significance on the methods of cutting pine stands, will be discussed by a representative of the Appalachian Forest Experiment Station. "Cutting Practices Suggested for Old Field Pine," will be the subject of a talk by Prof. William Maughan, of Duke University. A. E. Wackerman, industrial forester from Norfolk, will dis cuss "The Forest Industries of Eastern North Carolina and the Need for Integrated Utilization." "Can We Re-Develop a Naval Stores Industry in North Carolina, and How?" will be the subject of talks by Lenthall Wyman, professor of forestry at State College, and Dan Herring, of the Wilmington Naval Stores Company. J. S. Holmes, state forester, will open the afternoon session with a talk on "Protecting North Carolina Forests." R. W. Graeber will point out the place of farm woodlands in the forestry program. G. H. Lentz, of the U. S. Forest Service, will speak on "Pulpwood Cutting, Its Place in the Forestry Program." S. C. Sweeney, of Wilmington, will duscuss pulpwod cutting and its place in the forestry program from the viewpoint of the operator.
