The flower most in evidence in
Southport these days is the hydraugea.
It seems that everyone
has at least one bush and many
have several. They are making
the town beautiful and we're
wondering if maybe the woman's
club shouldn't emphasize this
flower along with the azaleas.
After all, we already have a
grand start with the hydrangeas,
ana, like tne azalea, it seems to
be peculiarly suited to this soil.
The prettiest we know of are
in the Messick front yard. They
are about 8 feet high and make
a wonderful show. Others who
have particularly pretty ones are
Miss Parkhill, Mrs. M. R. Sanders,
Mrs. Charlie Easley, Mrs.
Mary Cranmer, and oh! many
more.

the latest addition to the business

"in a simple ceremony solemnized
on Monday morning at
Trinity Methodist church, Miss
Dorothy Davis Bell became the
bride of Thomas Jackson Gold,
Jr., High Point attorney. The Rev.
R. H. Harrison, pastor of Trinity
church of which the bride is
a member, officiated at the ceremony,
using the ring ritual of the
Methodist church.
The couple were unattended and
only a small group of close relatives
and friends were present
to witness the ceremony.
The bride wore a dress of dull
blue sheer crepe features a white
floral design which formed a
stripe. The dress was made on
simple lines in the new long-torso
silhouette effect while her hat
was a draped white turban. Her
other accessories were also of
white.
Mrs. Gold is the daughter .of
Mrs. Charles Lee Bell, of Southport,
but has been making her
home in High Point since graduation
from High Point College
from which institution she received
her A. B. Degree in 1937.
She received her early education
in the Southport schools.
She is now a member of the staff
of the High Point Enterprise.
Mr. Gold is the son of Senator
and Mrs. T. J. Gold of Sedgefieid.
He was educated in the High
Point schools, later attending
Woodberry Forrest School in
Orange, Virginia, and the University
of North Carolina and
1 spent one year at the University
1 of Paris. Since his graduation
i from the University of North
! Carolina Taw school, he has been
a member of the law firm of
Gold, McAnally and Gold, High
Point.
Mr. and Mrs. Gold left immediately
after the ceremony for
Wrightsville Beach where they
will spend a few days at the
Ocean Terrace Hotel before returning
to High Point where they
will be at home at 500 Hillcrest

HOUSE WARMING
Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Jones
were hosts Friday evening to a
number of guests at a housewarming
at their recently completed
new home at Leland. As
would be expected at an occasion
of this kind, one of the chief
interests of guests was the tour
of the house, conducted by Mr.
Jones himself.
Afterwards several games and
contests were played under the
direction of Mrs. Lee Blake, with
R. I. Mintz being prize winner.
For refreshments a chicken salad
plate with accessories was served

R. C. St. George of Southport
is the recent recipient of two
bronze medals awarded him by
the State Department of Fortyand-Eight
for securing more memberships
than any other man for
the Brunswick County Post No.
194, American Legion.
One is his award for this honor
