Veterans Of Wars
Asked To Meet
Veterans of World Wars I and
XI are being urged to meet at
the D S. Andrews store at
Shallotta on Saturday night, September
3, at 8:30 o'clock, for the
purpose of' organizing a Post of
the American' legion.
All who have honorable discharges
from any of the branches
of the service are entitled to
membership in the Legion and
this meeting is for the purpose
of talking over the organization
of a new Post.
To Hold Service
For The Deaf
Rev. James Fortune and Rev.
Robert Turner, of Durham, are to [
spend the latter part of this week
and first of next week here with
Mr. and Mrs. E. M. McEachern. i
Mr. Fortune's father, who died
several years ago, was a missionary
among the deaf, prior to his
death. His son has taken over
and is carrying on much of this
work.
While here he plans to hold
services for the deaf at St.
Phillip's Episcopal church. These
services will be held Sunday afternoon
at 5:00 o'clock and it is
urged that friends of the deaf in
New Hanover, Bladen and Columbus
county, advise them of the
sen-ices and urge them to attend.
Shallotte Men
Finish Service
Sgts. J. Carl Ludlum and Elwood
Mintz, both of Shallotte,
have received honorable discharges
Com the army and have returned
to their homes.
Sgt. Mintz served three years
and eight months and was
wounded in the Pacific. He is
the son of Mrs. H. L. Mintz and
the late Mr. Mintz, of Shallotte.
One brother, Major R. I. Mintz,
of the air corps, has just recently
returned to the States following
service in Europe.
Sgt. Ludlum is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. J. Ludlum, of Shallotte.
He served four years, most
of the time overseas.
