New Teacherage
Helps Shallotte
Low-Cost Housing Facilities
For Faculty Members At
Shallotte Have Proved
Boon During Current
School Year
Although it is not yet com
pleted the teacherage at the Shal
lotte school has been a boon to
more than two-thirds of the
faculty this year, and with the
low salary that is paid teachers
the $7.00 per month that is
charged teachers for rooms means
a very welcome saving.
Out of a faculty of 32 teach
ers, twenty teachers and Principal
and Mrs. H. C. Stone all have
rooms or apartments at the
teacherage. Others not living at
the teacherage are residents of
the immediate community and
have no need to pay board and
room.
The first payment of $2,800 on
the bonds through which construc
tion of the teacherage was made
possible was paid promptly, and
there is a clear outlook for easily
making other payments as they
become due.
The Shallotte school with its
enrollment of approximatelyllOO
is supposed to have a total teach
ing force of 33. This year, un
able to secure an agriculture
teacher, they had to get along
with only the 32. Mr. Stone said
this week that with the changing

red dollar bond in an automobile
stealing case for which he will
be tried at the next term of Su
perior court, Theodore Babson,
young Waccamaw township white
man, is in jail aguin for his ap

stealing another automobile.
On January 19th young Babson
was arrested by Rural Policeman
W. D. Evans, allegedly having in
his possession an automobile he
had stolen from Bryant Babson.
Asking a jury trial, his case was
automatically sent up to Superior
court under the $300,000 bond,
which he managed to give.
Last Saturday night Babson was
again arrested for stealing an;
automobile. This time he was
charged with stealing a machine
belonging to Floyd Evans, and
was in possession of the Evans

Deputy Sheriff Odell Blanton, who !
hailed him into court.

on one larceny charge, and is in
jail for want of a $300.00 bonds- j

This is for maintenance from the

Residents of Lockwoods Folly

been hoping f?r a larger sum
than the above. The river is im
