bipther, Bryant, and his wife,
Mrs. Ethel Walker Mintz, of
Seattle, Washington.
This was the first visit .jv
Bryant Mintz since he left home 1
31-years ago at the age of 17.
He joined the Army and served
with the 1st Infantry Division
during World War X. He was;
married when he was quite a I

White Men And One Col
ored Man Enlist In The
Regular Army
During the week ending May
11, a greater number of men
were accepted for enlistment in
the Regular Army than during
any similar period since the open
ing of the Wilmington Recruit
ing Station. Thirty-two men were
transported to Ft. 'Bragg for
swearing in and assignment, Lt.
N. G. Cottle, Commanding Of
ficer, stated this week. During
this same period the Wilmington :
Recruiting staff had 190 inter- j
views with men seeking informa
tion about the Army recruiting
program. Most of these men will
return later to enlist, Lt. Oottle
said.

cruiting activities, Lt. Cottle at
tributes the continued success of
his station to efficient and well-l
trained personnel; timely pre
sentation to the public through
the media of advertising and per
sonal contact; the splendid op
portunities offered by the new
Regular Army; and the splendid
cooperation rendered by city of
ficials, civic organizations, busi
ness firms, radio stations, and
newspapers.

Although it has been my privileze during the past three and one
half years to serve you as a member of the Board of County Commis
sioners, I am just an ordinary, hard-working citizen who must spend
most of my time attending to my own business. Because this is true
it has been impossible for me to engage in a campaign that would
take a lot of time and money.
I wish that it had been possible for me to see and to talk to more
of you voters and tax-payers in person, because there may be ques
tions that ycu would like to talk over about your county government.
It is your privilege to know about these things.

I do want to point out that it has been my good fortune to serve
as a county official during a period when the affairs of our Countv
Government have been conducted in an effiqient, business-like man
ner. I do not presume to claim all the credit for this, but 1 feel that
I have profited by the experience gained in this office, and I believe
that this is an office that needs experienced men.
I am not ashamed of my record. The things I have done have
been done because I believe they were for the best interest of my
county. If you like the way the affairs of our county have been con
ducted during the past threo and one-half years; if you want to see
the business of our county government still entrusted to one of the
men who have handled it during a critical time in the history of our
county, then I shall be happy to serve you again as a member of vour
