The State Port Pilot ... ? . Southport. N. G. Published Every Wednesday JAMES M. HARPER, JR Editor Entered 3s second-ciass matter April 20, 1928, at the Post Office at Southport, N. C., under the Act of March 3, 1879. SUBSCRIPTION RATES ONE YEAR $1.50 SIX MONTHS 1.00 THREE MONTHS 75 Wednesday, Juno 19. 1946 Welcome, Club Women Today in Southport the Homo Dem onstration Club Women of Brunswick county are playing hostess to members of this organization from the lltli Dis trict. We hope that the visitors have en joyed their visit to Brunswick county, and hope that they will return. It is our understanding' that this meeting came to Southport unsolicited. We hasten to assure the ladies that their visit has not been unappreciated, and it is our hope that after seeing the benefits that may be derived from a convention, the civic leaders of our community will make an active effort to have other organizations of this State use Southport as their convention site. Support The Schools Maybe this sounds like a funny time of the year for an editorial on the sub ject of support for our schools, but un less our citizens start giving our" educa tional set-up in this county their full cooperation we may run into some or * ganizational changes that we are not ~ going to like. Something we can do now is to lend our personal support wherever possible tt* the job of securing good teachers for the ijpxt school year, if you MdW of some promising young man at Woman who is available foe a positipn as (wli-. er, get in touch with the proper auth orities. '}Ve think that they will appre ciate yonr interest and your help. Justice Is Done - We paraphrase as we make the observation; The mill of justice grinds slow, but grinds exceedingly fine. We do ntft believe that there is a single man irv Brunswick county- who isn't glad in his heart now that Sehoop er Cause was gfrv,en a fair trial; instead of being1 made the victim of mob vio lence. \ Small Industries Brunswick county will never become a highly industralized area, and We cannot -truthfully say that we are sor ry. But .we do believe that it is possible to develop some small industries that will help provide a safe economic bal ance. The other day we saw a truck haul ing truck load- after truck load ? of knocked-down wooden boxes here for packing and shipping seafood. They had been shipped in from another county, this despite the fact that they were made of pine boards ? and pine is one of the biggest crops produced in Brunswick. Maybe we are wrong, but this looks like a good place for some young man to set up a small box factory. Medical Care Residents of Brunswick county have four things for which to be thankful in connection with the medical set-up that protects their health. Three of these reasons for being thankful are the trio of doctors who serve them. We doubt that three more competent men of medicine may be found in a single county in North Caro lina. The fourth thing for which they may well be thankful is the J. Arthur Dosh er Memorial Hospital at Southport, which makes it possible for three men to minister the medical needs of this many people, scattered over an area the size of our county, PERSONALS *?
