Newton, of Raleigh, spent the holiday week end here with his family. H. W. Hood, state inspector for the bureau of weights and meas ures, spent the week end here with his family. Miss Ellie Ford Hinson left Monday for Durham where she will teach this year. Mrs. Victor Bartels has return ed from a visit with her parents, in Boston, Mass. Mrs. Sallie H. Garrett, who has been visiting her children, grand-children and other relatives in different parts of North Caro lina and South Carolina, return ed to her home in Southport the latter part of July. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Patience and three little boys from Cres cent City, Fla., who have been visiting Mrs. Patience's mother, Mrs. Sallie Garrett, have return led home. I Mrs. Josie McCall, of Raleigh, and Mrs. John J. Garrett and two little girls brought Mrs. Garrett home and spent the week end. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Denbo and children, Jean and Eddie, also spent one week end with Mrs. Garrett. Miss Imogen Garrett and Mrs. H. B. Ludlum and family, from Wilmington, also visited Mrs. Sallie Garrett recently. This is 1 their first visit home since 1941. They like California very much 1 but still think there is no place : like Southport. They plan to make Southport their home when Chief Hancock retires. j Mrs. Ned Smith and children, of Atlanta, Ga., are spending some time here with Mrs. E. H. i Smith. Julian Southerland, officer on a ?dredge in Norfolk, has been spending the past three days here with his ihother, Mrs. C. P. Southerland. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Mallison, of Washington, have been spend ing part of the week with George and Miss Beth Grimes. E. C. Newton who is working ,in Raleigh, spent the week end 'with his family here in South iport. R. W., Billy and Elwood Cheers returned to their homes in Shal lotte Saturday after a week's vacation in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jones re turned to their home at Lake City, S. C., Saturday after spend ing a week at Shallotte with Mrs. j Jones' mother, Mrs. T. W. White. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Dawkins spent the week end here with friends. They now reside in Hickory. Mr. Dawkins is a former principal and Mrs. Dawkins a former teacher in the Southport school.
